bodypainting for photography
I do bodypainting in addition to photography and am having a hard time making a living in oklahoma even though my photography is decent. Does anyone out there need any bodypainting services for any photoprojects they have? I would be willing to give some discounts to the first few people to book me and pay for travel. I could use an escape from Oklahoma again anyways, lol. Has anyone else worked with special effects and bodypainting in their work on here? Apr 26 05 10:35 am Link ooohhh, i've done bodypainting and special fx but not for photoshoots. I want to do some more, but I am waiting to get airbrush gun and compressor and then i will be a bodypainting machine!!! Apr 26 05 12:25 pm Link I'm looking for bodypainter in the NYC/NJ area... Apr 27 05 08:13 am Link I don't mind traveling, lol Posted by Photo Lauren: May 04 05 02:48 pm Link Some of the stuff you can do with airbrushed makeup is awesome, so I think you will love it. -Bryan Posted by angela mcmillan: May 04 05 02:48 pm Link i've played around with it before, and yes, its a heck of a lot of fun. i'm finding to get started it's kinda expensive right now, so all my ideas are just going to have to wait... same thing with fx too. expensive to get started. *sigh* soon enough. soon enough. May 04 05 04:50 pm Link LOL,everyone knows I have, hehe. Hint:cheetah airbrushed by Mark Greenwalt May 04 05 04:59 pm Link I've been painted and done make up myself so many times i've forgotten. Problem is, i've just moved to the states and don't know where to get the make up from here?? May 10 05 08:19 pm Link I love body painting. I'm going to be working with Pashur in July. I can't wait !!! If anybody else is interested in doing body painting with me, let me know. P.S. No latex please, just to be on the safe side. May 13 05 08:44 am Link Posted by Venus: i was hoping to shoot with him in july as well..now that'd be cool... May 13 05 08:57 am Link Now here's a question for bodypainters... how do you guys/gals handle copyright. Obviously your painting is a copyrightable work... and I would think the photographer would not be able to sell an image without your license or release. May 17 05 09:02 pm Link Posted by Norris Carden: its no different then make up... May 17 05 09:04 pm Link interesting question on the copyright thing and simply put I agree with Doug but maybe it is not so simple. I have done and will do bodypainting but the old fashioned kind with powders, acrylics, and oils not airbrush but I know my way around a spray can so it should be the same basically. Maybe I will get an airbrush soon, But the best are in the strip clubs of Japan and asia. They are so fast and great it is amazing to watch. May 17 05 09:51 pm Link Posted by Doug Swinskey: I hadn't quite considered that. At one level I agree with you .. but at another level, many of these things are a work of art composed on the canvas of a model. At one level I agree with you .. but at another level, many of these things are a work of art composed on the canvas of a model. well pashurs work is brilliant and i see he lists imself as shared copyright owner in some images..which is posible if the photogrpaher agrees to it or if the photog was working for him at the time.. May 17 05 10:40 pm Link But is that really the answer, how is that different from some jackasses who have tried to sell photos of MY STREET ART WORK as theirs, I have talked to lawyers about it and I am in the right. Yes, street artist but not really grafetti people talking to lawyer, wow what a world we live in. If you photograph my painting up close you cannot have the copyright to it or the image. How close is close? I need some art of noise music to write this. If one is creating art and not just helping out then where is the line? Look at the career of a friend Varuska the model from the 60's. She has more claim to the images than the photographer does. No is an easy answer but not always the right answer. Mark F./Marksora Please quote me correctly or I will break your legs. May 17 05 11:25 pm Link Interesting question. Honestly, I'm not sure if how this would be handled. I don't know of any court cases setting such a precedent. And that's what law tends to come down to anyway: precedent. May 17 05 11:53 pm Link I'm planning a body paint series with Pashur in June. As for the copyright, I'm willing to share it given his level of work. May 17 05 11:58 pm Link Computers su** The law Su*** editing su*** (I will not be rude but I am sure you could use your great 275 iq's to figure out the rest) May 18 05 12:00 am Link angela mcmillan wrote: It can be a very rewarding experience, artistic, creative and fun. I worked on the movie set of Dark Wolf doing bodypainting and they shot the entire film in HD, oh my gosh the colours were awesome, it captured everythign awesomely. All depends on the agreements made. Best to have things in writing and notarized when able to as well. It's used for the Seattle Fremont Bike ride during the Solstice parade. A lot of people on that list have a lot of contacts in the body painting world. (me on the left) Sep 03 05 10:17 am Link I would suggest contacting Neal Rue (https://www.modelmayhem.com/member.php?id=572) who works often and successfully with Pashur (https://www.modelmayhem.com/member.php?id=1727) on collaborations. In fact, they had a shared booth in the exhibit hall at FetishCon - although they were rarely BOTH there - one was painting and one was shooting! I'm sure that they could give you some guidance on this issue. Sep 03 05 11:54 am Link Bryan Crump wrote: Heck I think you would pay someone just to get out of Oklahoma. Sep 03 05 02:45 pm Link I also bodypaint and I tackle the copyright question in a few ways. MOst of my work is with Dan Hood, we created SecondSkinImages as a partnership with equal share in the creative work. It has helped us both in our respective careers. If a photographer or client hires me then they own the copyright of anyimages that they take. BEcause the original work is mine I retain copyright on any images I take, OR I ask for them to give me usage rights to a few of the images they take. I do view bodypaint work as ENTIRELY different from regular makeup. WIth regular makeup you may end up with a different flavor, or style, but unless it is a makeup specific shot the makeup is not the main focus. With a body paint shoot, the bodypaint is the main point of the image, or the bodypaint and model are both the point of the image. I figure if someone wants a bodypaint shoot done, it is to be the focus of the project where someone applying lipstick and eyeshadow is to enhance the project, but not to be the focus of the project. (There ARE exceptions) Pashur is a great bodypainter, and more importantly in this case he is working his a$$ off travelling the country to get more work and increase his visibility. I think if anyone out there wanted to hire him, or Bryan, myself, or Mark Greenawalt that any of us would be glad for a decent opportunity. On the side, Bryan...have you heard of a possible U.S. bodypaint competition in NEw MExico next year? ~Rich Sep 04 05 11:49 pm Link The Body Painter Rich wrote: Nope, i have not heard about it just yet, can you give me some details?
