Hello,

I have a pair of dark black pants that I need to change to a hot pink and baby blue... Has anyone ever tried this and suceeded without it looking too fake?? What method did you use?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you

There are a number of methods available but without a image to reference, it hard to give good advice. Depending on the image, a simple color select adjustment layer may suffice, a short trip in LAB may be more appropriate or masking may be necessary.

I cannot release the images to view... But its pretty basic black pants... That are exposed correctly... Just need to hear a few methods on how to do this...

It's very doable assuming there is texture throughout.

- On the hue/sat layer, tick the colorize box and adjust hue.

- On the curves layer, change blend mode to screen and adjust the curve for brightness.

(I'm not sure why, but if you change the hue/sat blend mode to color instead of normal, the color is a bit brighter.)

if you have a RAW file you can make a very light rendition of it with fair
amount of fill and recovery. Then a color layer(s) of your choice, color
fill, hue/saturation colorize ect with the appropriate masks.

I'd use the Shadow and Highlight adjustment first because luminosity in shadows is different for bright colors.

+1

S/H and some curves should do the trick.

And this is what I mean when I talk about the luminosity of the shadows making no sense.

(sorry Carey)

You couldn't realistically have shadows that deep

Well if they are similar to the above link.

The images below are pure and simple colour theory using channels. No hue and saturation fixes, no colour overlays, no luminosity changes.

Note: If you want an exact value of colour, give me a swatch of the colour you are looking for and this can be also achieved.

Here is a hot pink of peano's version. A standard hot pink version in the middle and a lighter version on the right.
