Hello Everybody;

There seems to be a confusion about my s/n and name...

So, instead of sending individual emails or responding in certain posts, especially to people who know me via MM or MM/RL (real life), let me just explain what's up with my name.

First, there was "Udo R###########", were my last name is a long Ukrainian name with 12 letters, so my full name contains 15 letters.

"Udo", a German name (google "Udo Klier", German actor, playing the Vampire Nation leader 'Dragonetti' in "Blade") is my first name given at birth by my parents, chosen to counterbalance that very long last name.

For my photography business, I had at first my full name, also on my cards, but... people usually have problems with the spelling etc.

So, I then shortened my name to "Udo R." and my business to "Udo R. Photography"... later, I pulled the letters together and spelled it in my current form "UdoR" with the "R" capitalized...

... and as it were, people started to call me "Udor" and after a while, I got used to it, and someone told me that this sounds like a bohemian artists name.

Being born in Schwabing, the Bohemian part of the city of Munich (Germany), I thought about it... and since then... I photograph as "UdoR" and I got used to people calling me "Udor", so... I listen to either "Udo" or "Udor", since it appears that this became my identity as a photographer/artist.

I will continue to spell the name with a capitalized "R", but may find a different way to capitalize my name.

The Daily News and some other publications gave me photocredits, spelling it as "Photos by UDOR"... and a few as "Photos by UdoR" and I kinda liked the idea of "UDOR".

Got to have a discussion with my manager/agent and my publicist and get some input from them.

Until then, remains sincerely

UdoR

wink

That makes sence, but being a Texan and having heard "git R done!" way to many times, my first thought was to seperate all sylables and got, "U do R." Perhaps a referance to a model you didn't want to shoot with...

LOL...

When I was still just "Udo", I had this one photographer making a nice remark to me, telling me that he tried to get some of my style of location photography into his portfolio and he told me that he often thought "What would U-do?"

That was a nice compliment and play on that name... smile

Yes, she approached me a little while ago after someone referred her to me. She is a tv producer and publicist who won two Emmys for her tv work.

That sucks.

I remember that she seemed to do good stuff for you.

I have yet to work with her on bigger projects.

Wow--you must be even better known than I thought. Is it common for photographers to have publicists? What exactly is she doing for you? I keep thinking of the chick from Entourage. Uh oh...looks like I'm going off topic.

For the record, there was never any question in my mind your name was Udo R.

I have a publicist too, but she tries to keep my photography a secret.  Udo must be living right or something.

That isn't what I heard.

I thought it was "Ud OR" as in Ud OR something else.  I always thought you were keeping the "something else" a secret.  Then I couldn't figure out how someones parent could name their child "Ud" no matter where they lived.  So I decided to Google the name "Ud"

When I Googled the word "Ud" all I got back was a bunch of horror stories.   Some of them were very scary.  There were a couple of references to criminal cases as well, axe murderers and such.

Then I went back and read your post again.  Then I realized what you were saying was that your first name was "Udo" not "Ud" and I was relieved.

I always knew you were a man of stature and class.  I went back and looked up the origins of the word "Udo" and looking at the ancient texts it means "Man who is to be reverred."  I feel a lot better.  I always knew there was something to the name.

Seriously, thanks for clearing it up.  I've always known it was Udo, with "R" being the initial for your last name, but I can see how there was confusion with others.  And seriously, nobody should be though of as "Ud."

Keep up the great work!   You deserve all of your success

I'm thinking I need to post to "Site Discussion."  This wasn't a triple post.  When I click edit, rather than editing, it is treating it as a "quote" rather than an "edit."

OK, sorry for the triple post.

I have a publicist, too.  My one roommate tells my other roommate about my work all the time.  Word around the living room is that they both think my photos are pretty good.

Hah!

This is NYC, my dear Cinnamon... I know single people around 50 who are roommating for one reason or the other.

It's sometimes no other way to live in a nice area and rather sharing the rent for a nice place, than living in a "dump", but your "own" dump.

What I am saying is that it's pretty common in the NYC area. smile

Believe me, I'm familiar with the phenomenon. Still, I have to believe that reasonably successful adults like Brian can afford their own place...or else...I'll lose hope...

My distant dream of someday having my own place is dying as we speak.

Isn't THAT the truth?!

No matter how talented someone is... the photography gig in NYC is a tough one.

Many people who want to be in fashionphotography, or artistic or whatever photography come to NYC, which also means that there is a huge amount of competition and there are free gigs you have to do, to get your name out, cutting deals with people and constantly networking.

For some private reasons, I am not marketing myself as much as I could... but I hope I can resolve that issue sometimes too.

Living in the city (all borroughs) is expensive.

It's not just the quality of your work. You just never came across as "struggling" to me over the course of all your posts. Little did I know!
