~WEEKEND ASSIGNMENT~The Game~Week 178~

The concept? ... Everyday Things

Time to get shooting everybody! Use your imagination.
Whatever springs to mind....

Weekend Assignment is over 3 years old. Originally started by Mark Grant & Hayley Lek, carried on by Night Beat,  Visually Odd Photo, & Sungoddess Studios.
As well as the regulars that submit photos.

The idea behind "Weekend Assignment" is to force everyone....
.....To go out and shoot something you might not normally shoot
.....To look at things differently.
.....To expand your mind's eye.
.....To sharpen your skills.
.....To have fun.

OPEN TO ANYONE WITH A CAMERA!!! Yes.. That means ANYONE!!! (including Models, MUAs, Designers, etc.).  SUBJECT TO BE ANNOUNCED BY 11:00 PM Pacific ON THURSDAY.  POSTING TO BE COMPLETED BY 11:00 PM Pacific ON THE FOLLOWING MONDAY.  That gives you 4 days to shoot and edit, and 3 days for us to discuss the work from the previous assignment.

But, before you play, a couple of things......

(Try to resize your photos to less than 900 pxl. across sRGB.
They fit better and look better too.)Thanks, Philip

The Rules?
1) 1 photo entry per person, per assignment. The idea is to create a new photo for the assignment. Weekend Assignment is based on the honor system, so please don't use an old image to post as this week's submission. If you want to use past shots to match a theme, Blue Ash Film Group does a great job with the "Concept Shot of the Day" game, which we highly recommend. "Also Digital Art of the Day", and "Dark Image of the Day".

2) POST PROCESSING - Please keep it minimal. We want to keep the focus on photography and not post processing and/or illustration techniques. If post processing is excessive beyond the norm. Please state what you did and how you did it.

3) Again, this is OPEN TO EVERYONE WHO HAS A CAMERA.  Depending on the assignment, it will be up to you if a model is wanted or needed for your image. Some of our assignments may ask you to grab a candid photo of a person. This will be an option for each individual because we understand that you may not have the opportunity to capture the shot or may not be comfortable shooting strangers in public.

4) If you're open to sharing the technical details (camera/lens/settings) you are welcome to do so, but it is not required. Also, feel free to tell any story of how/where you were able to get the shot and history that might go along with it.

5) PLEASE STATE WITH YOUR PHOTO IF YOU WOULD LIKE DISCUSSION FROM OTHERS.
Unsolicited critique is not allowed.
Do not ask for, nor offer critiques. We can DISCUSS but CAN'T CRITIQUE.
The Mods are threatening to move us to the critique forum where it would be open to anyone for critique. Only those PARTICIPATING in the WEEKEND ASSIGNMENT are invited to DISCUSS the images.

6) Not really digging the theme? Got your own suggestions for topics?  Then please send them to me via PM!
Every one Idea you give me helps create 1-4 more

7) Have fun!

Enjoy the Assignment and let's get shooting!!!

Thank You,
Philip

wait for it. I have been contemplating this all weekend and finally have time. You will see the inspiration from you both. I was going to shoot a commercial shot, but....

Slightly cropped.
As is, out of camera.
If I were to work on it, I would fix the dust spots, contrast and + exposure.
I was originally going to shoot perfume and make-up on white paper. I saw L.Raye's shot, that was so cool. Then Faith's and figured I would use both of their shots as an inspiration piece.

Thank you.  I seem to find interesting things in the most ordinary situations.  I had thought of doing something similar with silverware, but decided that I didn't want to worry about the hassle of lighting a lot of metal.

I liked how you used the DOF in your image.

I played around with a few different f stops and speeds. I was shooting blind. I need a special battery for my light meter. I ordered one but it won't be here for a week.  I still have it set up I am going to do a couple different things.

Nice shot.
Very depressing book though. I prefer the classics.
That reminds me of Token;
April is the cruelest month...
I hope your book has a happy ending.
Paper wrinkles when it gets wet.

i like the classics but when i was in college I took a ton of Lit classes and was reading 3+ books a week. Totally burned myself out. I still like to pull out some shakespeare or dumas or bronte now and then

I like Keats, Dylan, Token must have had some bad experiences at war. Leaves most of his poetry morbid or dry. Others faired better with the horrid experience.

I was just reading some Yeats to get in a mood for showing an old man towards the end of his life.  I'm not satisfied with the photos yet, though.
