Apple Mail in Mountain Lion
Dear People who know more than I. Somehow, my copy of Mail in Mountain Lion became corrupted. Is there a way to reinstall just Mail without reinstalling all of Mountain Lion? The strange thing is that I have a back up of my main drive but on that back up drive, my copy of Photoshop CS6 is also corrupt. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled a fresh copy but it won't launch. So, in short, mail will not work on drive one and photoshop won't work on drive two. Any suggestions? I have gained some very useful advice there, but do monitor any thread that you start every hour or two because threads can run of momentum very quickly unless you answer questions promptly. Aug 22 12 02:58 am Link When all else fails, take your computer to a nearest Apple Store and speak to one of the Geniuses who can walk through how to get your Mail back up and running. The Apple support forms are great too but if you want to speak to a person go to the Apple Store thats in a mall or something. Aug 22 12 08:25 am Link 1. Download Pacifist. 2. Re-download the Mountain Lion installer (if it was deleted). 3 . Use Pacifist to re-install Mail.app (EssentialSystemSoftware > EssentialSystemSoftwareGroup > Essentials.pkg > Applications > Mail.app) You probably also want to think about replacing your hard drive, since it may be on its last legs. I tried several approaches but none worked and was facing a clean re-install of Mountain Lion which would have been a major pain. But, as I mentioned, while on start up disk one, mail would not work but all my other programs did. On my clone start up disk, which had not been cloned with the bad mail program, Mail worked but for some reason Photoshop suddenly would not load. I went to Adobe's support area, started a chat with some guy whose name I could never pronounce and within a few minutes he had Photoshop fixed. So I am good. Thanks for all your advice. By the way, there is a nice article written by me on today's Altpick Blog. www.altpick.com enjoy! Aug 22 12 03:05 pm Link If multiple apps are corrupted on a given hard drive, the problem is more likely with the hard drive than the installation of the application itself. And even if it isn't a problem with the hard drive, the problem is more likely a corrupted preferences file or data file (mail stores each message in an individual file and there are index files that tie everything together) rather than the actual application package. If you run the console app while you're launching these applications, it will likely show the cause of the problem if you know what you're looking for. Otherwise, best to make a trip to the genius bar before you start reinstalling apps with rogue utilities. Aug 22 12 05:31 pm Link |
