yep, it's blatant piracy of intellectual property rights without compensation...
Please consider not supporting entities who engage in unethical practices that threaten the livelihood of those who make their living with a camera... thank your for your thoughtful consideration here...
My BF informed me of this today....WOW! If I had an Instagram account I would shut it down the minute they made the announcement that they own the photos you upload. The arrogance of these companies.... they need to go the way of Netflix....begging and pleading "we didn't mean it!" too late....
oh and..... where do these companies find their PR people? my suggestion.... stop hiring idiots ...hire people that live in the real world. There are focus groups you can use before sending this kind of message into the world....Learn from Netflix....test your market before you make announcements. Chase bank runs email messages by it's customers as surveys all the time...."what would you think if you got this message?" smart... they are testing the waters before jumping in... it's so arrogant to think you know how the public will react to anything
CNET has the article where they backpedaled. They screwed the proverbial pooch, so to speak. They saw their user base drop like a rock and came back with what looks like an apology.

So FB wildly over pays for Instagram and now thinks, ooh, should we try to make money from this.
Brain storm...
Ok, we have lots of pics that aren't ours. Right you are, let's sell them. We'll just get some lawyer to add some language and hey, presto, instant money.

Agree Mary. I don't have Instagram either but the DH does and will be deleting as he is a photographer.
I honestly think companies start out with a great privacy policy then, when subscribers become addicted, change the rules hoping many either won't read the policy changes or won't care.

What I'm shocked about is the number of people I know personally who don't care about this particular change including photographers and models. This news is just one more reason for me to say "no" when someone asks to shoot a behind the scenes shot of a project I'm coordinating...
