I'm currently in Cosmetology school and plan on doing freelance makeup and hairstyling soon. A few of my photographers have asked for my rates and I'm unsure of what to tell them, so for starters, what should my rates be? I've asked a teacher of mine, and she recommended $25 for makeup or hairstyling, and $50 for both, since I'm not licensed yet. Let me know!

Thanks!

I recommend building your book and experience first... and then start charging...

and do NOT charge $50!

I cant tell you what your rates should be as it is determined by your local area.

Welcome to MM.... this is a frequent question - and one that spurs a lot of debate.

It boils down to what market you want to be in - and knowing that a Pro Path has certain etiquette when it comes to charging before skills are up to it.

Take a read through the FAQ - there's hours of reading on the topic. Then the Search has a few hours more.
