what is a editorial makeup artist ?
hey Just something im doing at uni and i need some advice from makeup artist/photographers who are all already in this area of the industry. Is there a difference between high fashion makeup and editorial ? what is a commercial makeup artist is there a difference between them? your input would really help even if its just a small sentence thanks in advance Oct 30 12 06:56 am Link Lyndsey sherratt wrote: The terms fashion, editorial and commercial have different meaning to models and photographers. I am currently in my second year at Bradford collage studying and widening my skills for a foundation degree in makeup artistry and special effects makeup and soon to be moving on to my third year to get a degree in fashion and editorial makeup. If Bradford College offers the courses you've referenced you should ask them. In general, when referring to the makeup style only, the terms intersect. 'High fashion' and 'editorial' are usually the same reference. Neither are a specific look, think about how different the makeup might be in a typical Burberry ad versus how it typically is on the runway at a Galliano Show. In terms of the actual work/jobs... fashion could mean anything in the fashion industry (could be a fashion editorial, fashion ad, fashion show, etc.) while editorial refers to editorials in magazines (could be a fashion editorial, could be a lifestyle editorial, etc.). "Commercial" refers to your more mainstream advertising type stuff.. think of a Colegate Ad, a pharmaceutical ad, etc. Generally, a more natural look but it always depends on the gig. Terms are loosely defined, so, always ask questions if people are using those terms to communicate a look. HTH!
