Hello everyone on modelmayhem.com!

I am one of the newest members of this community, and I made this thread for several purposes: to network, to learn, and to progress!! I am looking to connect and have a general discussion about things newbies to the scene show know, master, and be wary of.

I FULLY ENCOURAGE YOU to add me, check out my webpage and even give me your opinions, thoughts, compliments, and criticism. I am here to grow as an industry professional and definitely make invaluable connects with real people who care (and not scam artists).

My back story:

I am a 21 year old journalism major turned model from NYC. I was always unsure of which direction I should take my life, but not too long ago it became clear that I am a natural born entertainer, dying to take flight and soar in her entertainment dreams! Acting, singing, dancing, and writing are just a few of my many creative passions.

I joined modelmayhem.com to meet more professionals in the modeling and entertainment industry, and also to find local or distant work. In a nutshell, I am broadening my horizons, accepting mentors, and am definitely open to making new, exciting friendships.

So now that you know a little bit about me, do you have any tips or advice for a petite, new model like myself? How can I use this site to hone in on my skills, and find niche?

I really haven't had too much luck meeting people who want to discuss their journey, trials, and tribulations here. I hope this thread can help clear the fog on navigating through the hazy road to success here at modelmayhem.com!

Thank you for reading, now fire away!!

Peace, love, unity, respect. -Kimberley Elle

1-Before you do anything else, read all the stickies at the heads of the forums--All of them--
2-Read and understand www.NewModels.com

This will answer a lot of questions for you and prevent a lot of problems.

Then visit https://www.modelmayhem.com/po.php?thread_id=812235 (Third list, Mentors in Modeling) and request a portfolio review (you'll probably get several and they probably will be somewhat more complete and less harsh than you are likely to get in the critique forums).  While you're there, go through the list on the first page as well as the later added volunteers on pages 3 and 4 for someone near you, review the profiles and if you find someone, or several someones, that you think might work well with you, drop them a line asking if they would be interested in entering an ongoing mentoring relationship with you.  Remember that a mentor is a trusted adviser and a volunteer, not a manager or a "boss", and like you an individual with his own tastes, strengths and weaknesses.  It's a very personal relationship and not all of them work out so be prepared for the possibility that you may not find one or that the relationship may not be very deep or long lasting.

And lastly, remember that this advice, like any advice, is kind of like a banquet.  Take what meets your needs and leave the rest for someone else.

Good luck!
