This is a practical workshop on how to get striking black and white portraits using studio lighting. We'll talk about basic camera settings, exposure and possible histograms. I'll also quickly go through the basics of framing and shooting a portrait.

This isn't a heavily theoretical session though so I'll then set up a soft portrait lighting set up and let each attendee take ten minutes working with it to shoot out model. Once everyone has taken a turn with the soft lighting set up I'll modify it, making it harder for a more contrasty look. Everyone will then get another ten minutes shooting with our model.

This session isn't about pointing lots of lights at the subject and firing away. This is about how to use one or two lights and some basic modifiers to achieve really strong results. I'll also talk a little about how to post process these shots effectively, though the focus of the session will be creating shots that look good in black and white out of the camera.

We will have the lovely Fawnya Frolic sitting for us.

The workshop will end at 5pm.
