I don't particularly like my face
So, I need makeup to make my face more bearable for myself and others to view. o.O However, I'm too afraid to walk up to makeup desks and ask questions, because I don't know what I want in make-up. And the make-up ladies are kind-of... intimidating. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Smashbox-Camera … 568f0149_0 ^I wanted to buy this because I think it may work for uneven tone and acne scars... I had something like that before from Avon but it was a bit dark. But i'm not sure if this product is correct for my tone. I need help. o_O Will you help me? If it helps (and it does for me because i'm hopeless) try a make-up store with ladies that look more like you'd like to look - style, look, hair etc. I always approach the more alternative ones with crazy hair like mine, I feel less weird about asking for stuff then. Nov 23 12 12:43 pm Link Thanks! I was leaning toward companies that don't do animal testing. I also thought of Urban Decay... Which store would I walk into (my local mall has Bloomingdales, Sephora, MAC, Macy's, JcPenny, etc. and the next closest has more, I suppose)? When does Sephora (and other stores) have it's biggest sale? Nov 23 12 05:50 pm Link I hate Sephora. I went to the one in Union Square and asked for their help, and they sold me a $45 bottle of concealer last year that looked great under their special lights, but looked absolutely horrible in daylight. What good is concealer that only works in a makeup store? It's supposed to match your skin in daylight, too. I feel like they robbed me. Nov 24 12 12:53 am Link Have you tried searching for make up artists in your area. Find one that has worked with someone of your skin color, and find something you like. Nov 24 12 01:14 am Link To the OP: I am a woman of color and I know how hard it is to be color matched and all of the stuff that goes along with it. You shouldn't be intimidated, the goal of the artist at the counter is to sell some products to you. Get color matched and try out the product in your real life for a day or so. When you find something that works go back and purchase but try to purchase from the same person who sold it to you. You want to build a relationship of sorts with the artist. It helps the both of you in the long run. It gets easy to ask questions to someone who you've worked with and chatted with before. Some brands that you can take a look at are: MakeupForever Becca Nars Mehron (not sold in a dept store) Illamasqua Estee Lauder Graftobian (not in a dept store) Dermablend Fashion Fair Face Atelier (not in a dept store) For the items that you can't find at your local counter you can order samples from Camera Ready Cosmetics. Get three colors that are close to your skin range and play with them in the sunlight to see what works best. If you have the budget you can try and hire someone for a private lesson. Since you are in FL see if you can hire a makeup artist who will go shopping with you and put together a look for you that you can do yourself. Nov 24 12 01:22 am Link I saw the title of this post and had to learn how why you don't like your face, and was shocked to find a model with an extremely attractive face. In addition, keep in mind that most photographers, including myself, rate our models based on their ability to model more than anything else. Please stop being so apologetic, and realize that you have so much to offer as a model. Good luck... you deserve the best and I hope you receive it. Nov 24 12 01:34 am Link Its the only face you will ever have so I suggest the best thing is to learn to love it. but not too much Nov 24 12 01:45 am Link DaddyDPhotos wrote: This is a terrific suggestion! And so simple here on MM! Nov 24 12 02:01 am Link I also think that finding an MUA in your area is a terrific suggestion. Choose well; (s)he can not only give you pointers how to make yourself up, but will recommend skincare and/or products to use for skincare and makeup and I'm sure that if you offer compensation, (s)he will go shopping with you, if you want another opinion on stuff you want to buy. And as an addendum, I just wanted to say that I think you are absolutely gorgeous, Jessica. I don't know how it got into your head that your face isn't pretty, but when I look at you, I see a beautiful face that lights up when you smile, I see beautiful eyes and lips and nicely shaped cheekbones. So hold your chin high, woman, we need to see more of you. If you're ever in Prague, I want you in my makeup chair. Nov 24 12 09:59 am Link You are a stunning girl and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I agree with the above. Find a Mua proficient with ethnic tones and let her work on your face with different products. I would also love to work on your face. If you're ever in London or Paris then let me know! All the best :-) Nov 25 12 12:47 am Link I agree, Jessica. I think you are quite stunning! Too bad we don't live closer, I would love to go with you out to purchase some makeup. Why not bring a friend along for the process? I personally enjoy taking my friends makeup shopping and helping them out. Places like Sephora and other cosmetic counters can be extremely intimidating, especially if you are not 100% sure what exactly you want and need, so I am quite sympathetic to the situation. And to learn from our model here who has had a not-so-positive experience with Sephora, if you can, step outside into natural light to check out the makeup. Most cosmetic associates will be more than understanding to allow you to do this. And if a product is a bit more than you want to spend, just say so and they are usually great at finding a similar product at a lower price (they did just that for me a couple years ago). Break a leg with this project! Nov 25 12 07:53 am Link |
