Attn Fashion Show Aficionados: What do fashion show "stage hands" wear?

I would assume black pants, black tops, but it was said to me "business casual."

Any ideas/tips/knowledge?

thanks!

Stagehand as in you're setting up the runway, or dressing the models, or running the sound cable, or another task? Not enough information to answer this question.

Fashion show stagehand, I would definitely wear an all black outfit but extremely comfy shoes with support. Don't you dare wear heels because you'll want to shoot yourself in about an hour, lol.

If its more stage hand like for a concert or special event more casual, decent shirt, tennis shoes or boots for protection.

We wear stage blacks ... for a rock concert that's black dickies and a black t-shirt ... for something that's corporate or televised you  probably wear show blacks .. so Black dickies and a button down long sleeve black shirt.

without trying to over complicate things, how realistic are you looking to make it?

This is not kabuki theater, where the stage hands wear all black and black masks to symbolize to be invisible! (That's where the idea for the Ninja's black uniform is coming from btw.)

I have been part of the production of several hundred fashion shows in NYC, including Couture Fashion Week, so here is my advise from hands on knowledge:

When they recommended business casual it's true'ish.

Depends what you are doing backstage, are you doing the staging? Working with lighting and the cables? Are you coordinating the models? Are you a stylist?

Everybody wears their own clothing, unless a company is sponsoring, let's say makeup from a salon, and all the MUA's from that salon wear the t-shirts from that salon...

More important than anything... be there before time, do whatever it's necessary, when people scream at you, don't take it personally, it will get VERY hectic the closer the show is... and something is always missing and has to be improvised.

Keep your head level, calm and work as fast and efficient as possible!

Oh... okay... so, if it's fake and it's a fashion show... why don't you ask them?

Are the producers that told you to wear business casual?

If that's what they want... and they didn't specify "black"... I wouldn't wear black!
