I personally use disposable mascara wands, but i noticed some makeup artist use the wand from the tube and just clean it per client. Is that ok to do ?

no. always use disposable wand for clients, if you need reapply mascara -don't double dip - use next disposable wand.
For personal use - keep you own mascara - so then you can use original wand from the tube..
I've heard of people cleaning mascara wands and reusing, but really... I don't think the risk is worth the hassle. Its impossible to sterilise competely without medical equipment, we can only clean and disinfect and eyes are much more vunerable to infection than the rest of the face. And there's some hideous things that live in the eyelashes, such as these cute little guys http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demodex
And to be honest, the less brush cleaning you have to do...

Dear god....
hahah exactly.. years ago I worked on a fashion show and the head make-up artist told us to use the same mascara wands to save money... I looked at her and handed her a hand full of my own disposables fro my kit.. she was pissed at me and sent me home..
I honestly wouldnt ever double dip a risk someones health... and If she was I'm ok with being sent home because i have higher standards than her..

This. And I doubt any mascara wands would survive the sterilization process. Most methods involve intense heat to destroy certain viruses, fungus and mould that alcohol alone won't kill.
There is a HUGE difference between sanitizing and sterilizing. Learn it.
The main problem with reusing mascara wands isn't in reusing them from client to client. It's the fact that once you double dip into a tube, the germs and micro organisms that the wand picks up are then deposited back into the mascara itself, and now have a lovely little cozy dark damp environment in which to breed. After this point, it doesn't matter how sterilized that mascara wand is, it's the mascara itself in the tube that's the problem.
Edit: It's the same reason we use a spatula to scoop other cream products and work off a palette. Double dipping causes the product itself to become contaminated.
You'd have to completely sterilize the wand in between each dip into the mascara tube. As of yet there's no way to do this.
It's best to use disposable wands. Never double dip with that disposable wand. If you think you will forget, cut the wand off the cap. This way you must use a disposable.
Would YOU feel comfortable using a wand that has been used on a dozen or so other women? I'm very, very cautious when it comes to makeup... especially eye makeup. There are so many diseases and infections out there, I wouldn't dream of sharing my mascara - that's gross! Always use disposable, or have a separate mascara tube for you and only use the wand on yourself.

Yeah, I think you dodged a bullet there! What if you followed hygienic procedures but the other MUAs didn't and something nasty broke out. Your reputation would still be at risk because of even just one idiot. Wow... really. CRC has #75 mascara wands for $8.40. I mean, is a case of pink eye less expensive than a .11 cent wand? Craziness...
