Johnny Manziel wins Heisman
Anyone else surprised that a freshman was voted as the Heisman winner? I kinda thought Te'o was going to end up with the trophy. Dec 08 12 10:10 pm Link Manziel got most of his stats against vastly inferior competition including the tough non league schedule that all SEC teams play: Sam Houston State, South Carolina State, SMU and Louisiana Tech. He won the Heisman for one good game against quality opponent, winning vs. Alabama. He got hammered against LSU and Florida with no TD passes and three interceptions. His only other success against ranked teams were with 300 yard passing games against Miss. State and La Tech, the 50th and 120th (out of 120) ranked passing defenses in the country. The most deserving player finished fourth, Marquise Lee of USC who dominated his position like no other player this year. Dec 09 12 01:09 pm Link My feeling is that Johnny Football is not as good as Oregon's Mariota, another freshman. Oregon had a better year and is higher ranked than Texas A&M, and Mariota ran a more complex (and certainly faster paced) offense. But Johnny had a better PR guy, and he didn't suffer from being on a west coast team (and therefore avoided the prejudice). But that's me, an Oregon resident. It remains to see how well he'll do in the 2013 season. At least, he'll face real competition during the Cotton Bowl.
