I got hired to style for a merchandise shoot for a Mexican/reggae/hipster type band, and I'm kinda drawing blanks. It should be a fairly easy job,, I'm thinking of maybe:
hemp accessories
native American type jewelry
Caribbean colors

and this is where I start shooting blanks, they are bringing their jeans and wearing the merchandise, and theres 7 members with just one female.  Can anyone shoot me some direction on what else I could incorporate?

Mexican/Reggae/hipster?   really?  ok...... They are bringing jeans and wearing the merchandise.... This is where you just let it go....  Can I be real here?   I've listened to hundreds of art directors over the years describe "looks" and "direction"  to me.... usually what comes out of their mouths has very little to do with what is in their heads.... Trust me here..... Ask for one photo example of what they mean by Mexican/Reggae/hipster....... I bet you will get a bob Marley picture sent to you....      My educated guess would be what they mean is it's a Mexican band that plays Reggae.... "Hipster" was a term thrown in by someone over 40 who means "current" and not 70's Reggae....This is where a stylist has to be a little psychic.   They have the clothing already right?  so what are you doing for them?  If you are just getting accessories...I suggest sticking with Reggae accessories...just google Reggae, you will find them all over the net...I would be careful, you want to be subtle..... keep your accessories very simple, natural, down to earth...nothing cliche (like peace signs and weed plants)   example.... Yes...... http://www.rastaempire.com/p-1831-wood- … celet.aspx

No.......  http://www.rastaempire.com/p-2760-rasta … klace.aspx

Sounds like the band could be Reggaeton style.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reggaeton

Check the  music videos on YouTube for the latest style from famous artists like Chay C, J ALVARES, FARRUCO, DADDY YANKEE, ARCANGEL, YAVIAH, MALDY PLAN B

Don't stick to stereotypical stuff like like the "m"plant for "reggea" or  a stalk of corn for Mexico.

Good luck

Hope this helps,

Cynna

Yeah good ideas, I was going to bring some jewelry and bring a steamer, lint roller, to keep everyone neat looking.  Yeah I'm drawing blanks because yeah they basically have the all clothes already.  I guess hipster is a slightly wrong word, I guess they look slightly Chicano gangster too, lol.  They are kind of an odd but interesting style.

giving all the trade secrets away.... bring nothing but a few pieces of jewelry.... go through the wardrobe they bring...toss clothes around.... rummage through and make comments like "no" "yes" "makes my eyes bleed"  "oh my god you have got to be kidding me?!" shake your head a lot...make ugly faces...take credit in the end... welcome to styling smile
