HD foundation - help?
Dear MUAs, I humbly ask for your advice. I used the search function first but couldn't find answers to all of my questions regarding this issue. I am required to do my own make-up for a project I am participating in that will be shot in HD. When we screen tested the make-up I usually do on myself for shoots I wasn't happy with how it looked in close-ups - the foundation seemed to sit on the skin and in its pores. The foundation I use is Le Fluide by Paris Berlin Maquillage. I use L'Oreal Studio Secrets Smoothing Perfecting Primer only on the fine lines under my eyes and on my nose and forehead where my pores are larger. I use very little of both and apply everything with my fingers. This is what I wear in the vast majority of the pictures in my portfolio and I have always liked the way it photographs. My skin is normal to oily, clear twenties skin with some redness on the cheeks, some minor discoloration (a few scars left behind by spots) and some fine lines under the eyes. It is so pale it almost glows in the dark and has a very cool pink undertone. My pores are pretty fine except for on the nose and on the center of the forehead. So, my questions are: What foundation could I try that provides medium coverage (redness), is suitable for HD and is available in super pale shades? Brands I could easily get my hands on (meaning they are available in Germany) include Illamasqua, Kryolan, Smashbox, MAC, Bobbi Brown, Bourjois, Nyx, and most of the high end consumer brands. What type of brush should I get to achieve an HD suitable medium coverage with a liquid foundation - a stippling brush, a buffing brush...? I have never used a brush to apply my foundation before and I would like to give it a try, I am just confused as to what kind of brush to get. Would a different primer make much of a difference to how the foundation will look on HD? Anything else I need to keep in mind when doing my own make-up for HD? Any help would be most appreciated  Dec 29 12 02:40 pm Link I use Graftobian Hi-def and apply it with a wet wedge sponge, usually spritz with MAC Fix Plus. Dec 29 12 06:49 pm Link Sadly, I don't think Graftobian is available in Germany, and my skin tone is so weird that I would definitely want to be able to test a new foundation before buying it. I'd much prefer something I could just pick up at a counter for a number of reasons. Are HD foundations usually cremes? I have only ever worked with liquids, so I'd prefer a liquid foundation. I know that love-makeup.co.uk stocks them, but at the moment they only have one concealer palette. However, I think that every MUA has their favorite foundation; I don't think that there's one that's a catch-all for everyone. KJB's www.inmykit.com recommends Kryolan HD Micro Foundation (among others), so if it's easily available to you, I'd give it a shot. Dec 30 12 03:08 pm Link Remember that TRUE HD foundations are CREATED using HD technology. Meaning that when you look at the formula under a microscope the pigment looks the exact same way an HD wave length would look under a microscope. If you want TRUE HD makeup, do the research on what lines offer these. The more common type of makeup that is on the market will not have the same effect on an HD or Red camera as an HD foundation will. I couldn't resist, after weeks of watching everyone else drool over them, I had to get a couple myself - I have the HD Dual Finish Foundation Powder Palette and the Creme HD Foundation Palettes - BIG difference, love them both... You can either apply it with a sponge, brush, or in an airbrush machine. I would suggest since you are not an artist and only using it on your self to apply with one of those pink sponges. It is fragrance free, oil free, silicone free and paraben free. You can also mix the colors to get your perfect shade! It costs 10 cents per application. Jan 03 13 06:49 pm Link I use the Graftobian HD Creme palette in 'Warm' applied with a foundation brush, and finished with MUFE translucent powder to soften the sheen. - the creme goes on sheer-to-full and can be left alone for a 'dewy' look, or buffed with powder for a softer look. hope this helps.
