What are some things that you cheap out on? I know this superb MUA who says she doesnt like to spend a lot of money on lipsticks because they all will wear away, no matter what the price is. So she uses drugstore stuff.

I use all kinds of lipsticks. I just like for the consistency to be nice and creamy or matte. I find matte lipsticks last longer. I cheap out on liners and brow pencils. I feel like you can get the same look, no matter what the price.

But then again, I'm not big on using lip liner. I need to be schooled on that...

I go cheap on mascara, brow gel and lip balm, definitely. No point in spending more than a few quid on those things, there seems to be little difference.

I also go cheap on things like lips brushes (where its nice to have a pile, cleaning off rich, thick lip products at a shoot is a pain), brow combs and mascara wands too.

Lipsticks, Lip balm, mascara. I look for sales and coupons on other items that cost more than I can afford or have any right to spend my money on. For example Illamasqua recently had an online sale. I refused to spend a dime at Sephora for the products but on the website I purchased 9 items for the cost of 3 from Sephora. Another is blush, I have a M.A.C. and Bobbi Brown but I also like NYX and Wet n' Wild, that works really well for all skin tones.

I go cheap on anything I can.... as long as the quality is not compromised.  Most high priced products are pricey due to marketing costs.... no other reason really....   The best foundations I use are the cheapest, same with eyeshadow etc... When you buy big name brands you're paying for their marketing, that's about it..  When it comes to brushes there is a difference in quality for sure...really cheap brushes normally don't last as long as expensive brushes... Tools make a difference but makeup? I don't think high price means better.   Look at the country it's manufactured in....That's one of the best ways of knowing the quality.... Makeup manufactured in China and Taiwan  isn't normally going to be the quality of the makeup made in France or Germany....There are different standards.  I try to avoid using cosmetics manufactured in Asia in my kit... their standards are pretty low...I'm ok with containers made there but the actual consumable products I try to avoid when I know they are from Asia

Eye pencils in standard colors. Some of the best eye pencils are made in Germany and so, often the high end brands and *some* of the drugstore brands are made in the same factory with little difference in the formula. Unless you're looking for a really sophisticated color, brands like L'Oreal will work just fine.

I agree with Mary go cheap when it doesn't sacrifice quality. I just want to point out that it means going pro products 90% of the time. In my kit there is very little drug store makeup compared to brands like Mehron, Graftobian, and the brands that give good pro discounts. Just sayin...

I base my product choices on quality not price. I go cheap on mascara, clear lip gloss, makeup remover wipes, and the occasional lipstick.

Drugstore products are usually more expensive than professional products with a pro discount though.

False eyelashes,  Pencils, lip gloss.  If I can get to a makeup show, that works.  I buy through a discount makeup store.  I get a very good price, even better then others because I know the owner.  R-
