So, please, i've gotten scammed a few times!(well they attempted, but something just didn't feel right so i didn't follow through) How can i avoid scammers? What do i need to look for in a message that i should think twice about?

If you have been receiving messages, you have been to your Inbox, right?

Go look at it again and really look on the right, until you see the button that says "Avoid Scams." Then click and start reading.

There is also a good section on scams at newmodels.com.

If anyone offers you money or fame it's a scam.

Normally I don't randomly throw comments out in the forums but I love you're look

I'm going to agree with the others, if you're offered a large sum of money or fame it's probably a scam - the clients for legitimate, well-paying gigs can afford to go through a real agency and they wouldn't be scrounging around on the internet.

if someone wants to pay a newer model thousands of dollars that should be a red flag right there. anything involving checks is dodgy.

basically assume it's a scam until proven otherwise. there are a lot of scams. but usually you can tell based on the really bad spelling, grammar and it generally not making much sense (kind of like the writer of the message did too much sizzurp).

I can't think of a time when a model (or photographer) has asked "Is this a scam?" and it wasn't. What saddens me is those times when the model (or photographer) didn't pick up on the something-for-nothing flag.

In one sentence: No one is going to offer a large sum of money or instant fame to someone with little or no experience -- unless they're scammers.

Well, make that TWO sentences: No legitimate person/firm is going to send you a large check from which you will need to pay someone else.

Every newbie should be required to read the anti-scam info here on MM and sign to verify that they have done so.

i agree. mayhem should require this. there's no need for any models to fall for scams (unless they're just so starry-eyed they can't resist but then they shouldn't be modeling in the first place).

the current system isn't working. one of my models went so far as to receive the check.
