Guy With Out Cash or Talent GWCT   Someone that's been shooting for years and years but still  can't figure out the reason no models want to work trade with them is not because GWCs are paying them but rather because their work is crap.
So they end up stuck in kind of a limbo between the photographers that can get models to work trade with them, or even hire them, and the photographers that are willing to pay models models to work with them.
Of course limbo can be a rather lonely place which might explain some peoples bitterness smile

I feel as though I'm in a kind of limbo myself right now.  My photos are sort of stagnant and I need to do something new and ---- well something new.

It happens to me from time to time, (Every few years or so) and I always break out of it but it damn sure sux when I'm in that state.

Thing is a GWNT would never say or even think something like this "My photos are sort of stagnant and I need to do something new and  ---- well something new. "

With a GWNT the problem is always with someone else/the world but never ever ever with them smile

Girl With Body sounds a little redundant. But if you're looking for an acronym for the type of model who is only interested in getting paid with no modeling intent, and no interest in image quality, then maybe GWF is a better one.

Girl With Facebook.

Because that's usually the only place the photos from their shoots ever emerge.

That may be so -  however I have found Facebook to be a much better place to make connections with models -   the climate is much more positive than here, there is less of an adversarial environment.....

My facebook presence, in addition to bringing in commercial work (which of course would never happen here) has facilitated working relationships with models - many of whom were on MM but I had never seen them or vice versa - that were positive from the outset....

Additionally, many of the models who only seemed to be interested in money *here*  but who found me *there* had a substantially different attitude in that climate....

Anymore I post much more work - and of course am able to blog about my work and offer value added features - on facebook, than here....

There are many articles about Photographers and Models on MM.  And in Dallas, there are way too many girls who believe they are Models because they can stand in front of a camera, shoot lingerie, topless or fully nude and EXPECT to be paid.  It has actually destroyed the Photography market in the Dallas area for those Photographers who have spent thousands of dollars on equipment, lighting and photography classes, photoshop time, set-up time, build their own professional studios with 6 lights, filters, various backdrops/backgrounds and the like.

Sorry, I love the models; but something has to give...and I have.  I no longer will shoot any girl just to see her boobs or naked body.  It has to be for a reason, a project, a publication, or an artistic style where we BOTH profit from the sale of the images; whether on Print or Canvas.

Models (if you call yourself that)...please ask yourself what have you done to name yourself a model and demand payment from a photographer?  Can you go to your local corner Photography Shoppe and walk in, tell them you want a 2 hour shoot, want all the images, want at least 6 photoshopped, and ask THEM to pay you.  Crazy, isn't the word...as a matter of fact, I am not allowed, nor do I want to say the words on MM what I feel like saying.

I have shot great models, have been published, shot bodybuilding/fitness/figure/bikini competitions; have been published in a magazine, won a calendar award in Vegas, and have been published in an On-Line Bodybuilding/Fitness Website...and have shot for them.

So, I don't know what else to say...but Models, be sure why you call yourself a model...don't just say you are because you can bend your body a certain way, know how to put make-up on, and take your clothes off.  We photographers are into the lighting aspects, the creativity of the session, and have spend thousands on equipment and learning.  Our process after the shoot just begins, with downloading the images, Post Processing some of them, and more.  You, the Model, simply get dressed, say "Thank You" and ask "When will I get all my images and how many will you PhotoShop for me".  Then you stand by until we pay you.

WOW......this is the Modeling/Photography business in Dallas?   Then there are those GWC's who can undercharge photographers for workshops in order to get volume photographers, don't teach them a thing about set up and lighting....and just collect their money, provide cheese, soda, and sandwiches for a 6 hour workshop and walk away with $600 profit.  Not bad for not knowing what you're doing.  I want to find a job like that.  So if you have one for me, please write to me and I'll jump all over it.  $600 per workshop....let's see, I'll do 5 per week.

Thank you for reading this.
Disclaimer:  I in no means intend or intended to diss or disparage any Model or Photographer....I was just writing the words of reality in the Dallas area since I moved here from Florida 5 years ago.

Still love ya all, and love nude work; but Models, you truly have to be the one who Pays if you want the images, and post processing work done as well.

Have a wonderful day and a fabulous career. smile

I'm definitely a GWC going by the actual words that make the acronym, but is that so bad? I'm definitely a guy (two children and a happy marriage can attest to that), and I definitely have a camera. smile

I really don't see how lingerie/nude models are killing the photography business.

Don't forget models who have spent thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgery, also many lesser items.

Hi,

While I like creating and trying to make intersting photos and plan to be my own "business" as a model I also really like, "pretty photos for myself, friends and family too."

Is that wrong? When I photograph others I also like "pretty photos...."

Jen
p.s. then again, maybe I'm not fully into the true intent that the "GWPP" stands for;)!!

If talking about the many out of shape nude "models" without any modeling skills. I think GWC - "girl without clothes" is appropriate.

1) How has the photography market been killed by wannabe models expecting pay? If anything, the market is killed by clients expecting free work from photographers and by photographers eager to comply.

2) A photographer's investment in equipment, classes, postprocessing time, and six lights, filters, backdrops and the like is no guarantee of quality work.
