Hello!

I did retouches few years ago & now decided to get back in "business" after a 3-year break.

I use DB technique which I learnt after my terrible attempts with blur tool. I'm still trying to learn a fine color technique, but I don't know what I can be doing wrong (for example: lips, eyes, brows, hair, maybe skin itself?).

What would you advise me?

I'm going to share my current work in this topic and I hope to get better with time!

This is my latest attempt:

Thank you in advance!

Pretty clean job!  I wouldn't have removed the red makeup below the eye - but I would have accentuated it.  Also I would have tried to bring out the iris a bit in the eye as well.  I like how you did the skin color though. It has a very nice glow.

The top lip has a strange edge that I'm not too crazy about.  Doesn't quite look natural.

Great work over all, especially for just getting back in the game smile

Thank you for an honest opinion. smile I've got one more work to share, but I'm awaiting approval for using it outside MM.

I think the skin loos a little over-saturated. It might be my weird monitor, though.
The hairs on her nose are a little distracting. The edges of her lips could use a little work -- I can also see a green "infection" on the corner of the upper lip. When you desaturate the teeth to make them look whiter instead of removing the coloration, you have to light them up a little to not make them look gray.

Other than that, great work! Keep it up!(:

I don't use 100% of white on teeth, I know it would look fake this way. smile I will try with lightning them, though.

I can't see any green on her lips...? And I have no idea how different I should have treated lips? smile I followed one of tutorials up here on how to treat lips (very genius, by the way!). I gave them shape, but does it look fake? Maybe it's about colors &/or light?

I agree about nose, I don't know why I didn't remove these little hairs.

Thank you!

I had lots of trouble with hair. Any advice on how to treat it right? I couldn't find any helpful tutorial beside the one with Natalie's dark cloning thing.

Please, I ask for constructive criticism, not advertisements... :-/ I cannot afford buying DVDs - I'm a student.

Nostril hairs and the eye (our right) looks strange being blacked out. Perhaps processing the RAW a few times for different areas of the image could get some information out of that area.

Okay, so once more - should I leave or not these nose hairs, because I'm lost?

You would advice to bring out the eyes, Mike? I will keep that in mind next time.

brush back the neck muscles you lost that and it looks strange and splotchy at the moment. Lip line to me should be a little softer looks drawn and unnatural to me. Hair I would tone down the flyaways instead of completely removing unless that is what you wanted.

But the lip line was like that from the beginning...

Thanks for the comment on hair. :-) I have little trouble with all the "muscles" when it comes to whole body. I need to work on that.

lip: maybe don't darken around the lips as much.

neck: simply let the muscles be.

Hm, okay, thought sometimes few of these "muscles" aren't needed. I noticed a lot of retouchers lighten them out.

Thanks! smile

Okay, before posting my next retouch, I corrected "muscles" a bit and lips border (it was darker! I brought it back to normal), I hope it looks fine now. smile Of course, looking forward to all your comments!

Why don't you try to just focus on one image at the time!! It feels a bit bombarding!! :-)

I can't just sit and do nothing, I enjoy retouching. :-P

I learnt new technique today, so I hope to upload something new tomorrow!

Lia that's great but try to don't mix threads, as it becomes confusing for other people to follow or even try to help. One image per thread is always easier!! :-)

Hm, that's weird to me. On most forums people start a thread to share their work and let others comment - I didn't know it works different for here... BUT it would be stupid to make separate threads for each retouch of mine, especially since I make a lot of them... Perhaps I confuse with posting retouch by retouch, but no one wanted to comment and I prefer to keep my work updated. I'm not forcing anyone to comment on each retouch, just recent work. :-)

If it's better to start new threads for each work, I would like to hear that from one more person, so I can be sure it's alright (and not violating any rules/spaming/etc).

Lia if that's weird to you, just a have a look at the critique forum and you will see that most of the time... there is only one image to critique!!

Just trying to help!! :-)
