You served me well since 9/2008 for 347 shoots and 113136 images.

At the time, you seemed like the last camera I would ever need, but as I got more into available light photography in 2011, high ISO performance showed your age.

Today your D7100 successor has arrived, and I wish you happiness in the old body's home alongside my D50 and D80.

My first and last DSLR was a D300, I used it, abused it, it got wet, sandy, muddy and dropped it a few times but kept on working. I had a D3 for a few months, but it was to big and bulky. The D300 had a place in my bag.

I eventually sold it to a friend for $300 to replace her D40 which was getting an IR mod.

Having never retired a camera with less than 250,000 clicks, yours was just a teenager.

I had a D300 and was very happy with it, until the Pacific Ocean killed her. But I am happy with a Nikon D800....so much better in every way. I got the model Nikon Got right! lol

3 shutters later, my D300 is still going strong and still making money.

Quick edit from NEF file of 15 year-old "Candy" who has served as a test model for every lens and body acquired over the past 8 years:

Mine isn't going anywhere.

Would this be a good time to send it off to Nikon for any kind of maintenance?

It has no issues other than a few red and blue hot pixels.

Mine only goes in when something falls off it. smile

As for your r&b pixels, map them and keep shooting.

Recently retired my D300 for a D800. It Still has plenty of life left, but it's now my backup. I would say that the D300 was the camera that gave me so much, and asked for so little in return. A beautiful thing in this crazy world!
