So I'm very new to Model Mayhem, as well as the entire modeling industry. I had my first photoshoot last week and I have uploaded a few of the photos from it. Feel free to comment or critique.

I'd get rid of the non-professional photos in my opinion, it distracts from the actual model images. Also don't just stand there and smile, make an effort move around play with poses, un-button your shirt a little to give yourself a more relaxed look. Do other hair styles.

My advice would be to try to do varying poses. Your whole first line looks too similar. Maybe some action shots. Sports maybe, like mountain biking, think product shots.

The color cast on these images makes them look similar to photocopies with too much tone. Besides that, the image I see with the most impact so far is this one:



To make it better, I would have matched your pose with your expression by shrugging off the jacket or pulling your shoulders back to make your chest come forward as if to say, "what up?"

Now go hire a better photographer and practice using more motion in your poses!

well, in your first 5 images you have essentially the same pose and expression. I might suggest to pare them down to one or two of the best out of those 5 if those are all you have right now. We are only as good as our worst image technically. Also, on your last two, you have the same facial expression as most of the rest. Maybe find images that inspire you that you want to shoot like, and practice those facial expressions in a mirror until you nail them.

Also, keep looking for photographers in your area that will help you improve not only with quality of images, but by giving you posing expressions. My guess from the shoot that you posted is that the photographer was semi-inexperienced as well and did not know how to tell you to pose. hope this helps and good luck!

your first test really makes it clear that you should just do this as a hobby.  You dont have the look to model.  If you really want to be in front of a camera then take some acting lessons and pursue that.
