I have found, after posting a recent thread, that many photographers on Model Mayhem will not shoot a model if she has 'i have mental health problems' stated on her bio.

I was wondering. Would you consider to shoot someone with a mental health problem if she posted it clearly on her bio?

I know that a lot of models, photographers and retouchers will have mental health problems BUT when it gets stated on her bio it suddenly changes?

Whats your thoughts?

PS. Please refrain from taking this issue out on ME. Its a question to YOU. It has nothing to do with my profile or anything else.

Thankyou, all. x

I would probably move on to the next profile, not because I wouldn't work with mental health issues, but because it is a totally irrelevant statement. It is saying to me that the person is not focused on the job and is not very hopeful. I'm looking for people who can sell, whether that be themselves or the dress I ask them to wear on set.

Do you ever see a model agency website say "btw this one has issues"? Do you ever see a Zcard with "hates most make-up artists, can't work thursdays"?

It's amazing how many profiles assume their problem is someone else's problem. What made the person think I was going to book a Thursday? Alot of profiles are just laying down far too many terms and conditions when people have not actually decided to book the person, simply casting. That is what is off-putting, not the actual issue, but the fact the model is narrowing everything down before any question has even been asked.

It's like someone walking into a job interview and waffling before being asked a question. It's not a good tactic.

The bottom line is though, if you had the look I needed for the job, you have the look and all else apart from price and availability is fairly irrelevant.

I think one should think long and hard before disclosing mental health issue in a bio. If it's something that may seriously affect you at a shoot then it's a good idea to mention it (though maybe in a personal message to photographers you'll be working with instead of on your profile). if it's something that affects your life (obviously) but doesn't necessarily interfere with your ability to model, I'd leave it out.

Instead of mentioning a mental health issue, maybe she should have mentioned her problem with chronic flatulence.  Or maybe her turrets syndrome and kleptomania?

(Actually, those last two would have some importance to a shoot.)

Personally if a model had a problem with chronic flatulence i'd want to know about it.

I see you just disproved your point ;D
