Any difference for a Plus Size woman to walk runway then someone who is well Straight Size? Just like it is to pose, well sometimes.

Any tips?

What type of shoes and height of shoes are appropriate?

This isn't for a casting, I am already in it and am looking for some more practice.

No real difference, just go with what the client wants, wear what you're told how you're told to etc.

Yup! (I know, way too short - and yet I get booked for it more than you'd think)

Same as with anyone, really - posture poise and pacing smile

Oh, and if the designer puts you in something that makes you look like a giant booby pineapple with no waistline and and an arse with its own post code, smile, walk like you're a queen and don't complain tongue

Can you ask the client what to wear?

I don't *know* about plus models specifically, but I do know they tend to be a little taller, so you're on the "shorter" side at 5'9 if it's agency girls, and I would think pretty tall heels would help you. But, if you're walking with mostly non-agency plus models, then you are probably one of the tallest, and that may be less sound advice. tongue

Good luck!!!

Thanks ladies.

I walked for Alternative Fashion a couple of times, but it is different to me due to the expression and posing you have to do. Then, again I was lucky enough to wear flats and the one time I had to wear shoes that had heels I was on a platform.

Usually, I am the only Plus Size woman at these type of things. Although this is a bigger venue; so who knows. Maybe there will be some aspiring Plus Models there getting there work in.

I will find out more as time goes on I am sure.

not really smile.

it all comes down to: walk the way the client wants you to walk, and show the clothes.

the difference, imo, is what the client wants. compared to "regular" runwayshows, plus size shows tend to be a bit more commercial, or have a walk that is a bit more ehm over the top (think tyra banks in the 90's big_smile).

here is a plus size fashion walk: (elena miro, they even used to be in fashionweek, and all the top plus size agency models are in these shows)

here's a show that is a bit more commercial, but still has a fashion vibe (notice how the models look at the audience sometimes, smile sometimes and do more "posey" poses at the end)

here's a show that is a bit more "over the top". they all walk really "sexy" and can do lots of personal stuff on the runway

high heels, definitely. but only if you can walk in them! I think a basic black pump is always handy to have, but again: ask the client what they want (or maybe the clients provides shoes). make sure it has a sturdy heel (more proportionate for a fuller body), and that both the shoes and the soles are clean!

I've definitely *seen* more plus models do a more hippy walk. Those shows always look so fun!

haha, I totally don't like those shows big_smile. a bit of fun on the runway is awesome, but sometimes it's just SO over the top, you can feel like a dragqueen...

check out 00:25. like that. but with big women big_smile

EDIT
oh found the perfect example of what a lot of "commercial" runwaywalks for plus size look like here smile

this is from a show in holland. there's often some choreography in there, and with plus size it's also not uncommon to walk with another girl (or in a group). and then the choreography means: crossing in stage, or one behind the other, or... and smiling smile.

and a bit of oldfashioned moves, like doing a little kick with your foot when you go, or doing a little hop at the end...

(ignore the dance in the end :p. that's not common for plus, but it happens...)

Oh gawd. I knew I was going to hate that first one. tongue

No, not like that.

Wow, it's hard to find good videos for plus shows on Youtube. Everything I just found was bleh.

I have seen one or two that are more fashion than commercial, but the walks are similar to the second link you posted. A little more bouncy and less rigid than a lot of straight size shows. But not like Tyra. tongue
