I'm finally ready to shop for websites to promote myself more. I've been looking for a little bit but hit a brick wall.

I heard WordPress.org is a great site. What sites do many of you have and what are the prices/packages?

I'm looking for a fairly cheaper site ranging from $20-$50 a month.

Webs.com or Wix.com is good. I created some portfolio sites for people using those sites, and they're free in general with very good work.

A website to "promote" yourself more ... can you explain in more detail what you would like to be able to do with your website?

I'm really liking Folio, which is wordpress based. The designs are really simple, but I like clean designs.

I use wordpress at no extra cost, through the company where I bought my domain.

I pay less than $75 a year, for everything.

Right now, it's pretty bare bones, since I scrapped my ENTIRE website a few hours ago and started over, but I can literally turn my website into whatever amazing beast I choose.

I use these guys, and cannot say enough good things about them. They are THE best company (in any industry) that I have ever worked with.

They use WIND power, answer the phone right away, know their shit, and are just...awesome.

Today, I called about an issue I was having with this super expensive package I just bought from wordpress, and the rep said "I'll make it really easy for you- you can just merge everything through us, for free".

Turns out, in my control panel, they just have tons of amazing things like shopping carts, blogs services, etc, that I can merge to my website at no extra cost.

Highly recommended, and super affordable.

I would recommend a word press site,  I currently use the theme Photography from the Theme Foundary, it is one time cost of $68 for the site.  Another wordpress theme I looked at after purchasing Photography was a site by Photocrati.  Both of these site are specifically designed for photographers (and models).  I know virtually nothing about building a website (my previous site was flash driven and I knew only how to change galleries) and in a week or so, I was able to create the site as I want it.  These site also have a provision for generating private galleries and galleries requiring a password.

Good luck,  Filezilla (free) hands my webhosting.

I host my own sites on my own servers and I think with my almost 20 some years of experience in the industry Wordpress is the absolute LAST thing I'd ever use or recommend to build a site.

It's complicated as all hell, it writes proprietary code so basically your site is stuck on the Wordpress platform forever unless you pay someone to convert it to HTML and it's highly vulnerable to attacks.

What's your intent with the site? I have some very nice plans for $20 - $50 /mo

I'd recommend looking at this http://4ormat.com/ it's cheap, really easy to use and can easily put up your photos. Plenty photographers use it if you look in the "spotlight" section.
