I found a casting call near me that seemed legitimate. It says it's an unpaid test, then when you go to the website it lists everything on the call but then says that it's $250! Is this a scam, or at least false advertising?

Rachel if it was on Model Mayhem then please use the "Report this Casting" link at the bottom right of the actual casting page...

Otherwise please be aware that "scam" castings are prevalent... reason? wannabee models are rather easy prey... don't become a victim.

It has become so bad that a major well know "Agency" in Richmond is now scamming applicants for $1300 for representation... I've received nearly a half dozen complaints on this "Agency" within the past several weeks from talent I've collaborated with... really sad...

Please remember that a legitimate agency makes their profit from booking work FOR models... NOT from models... any entity asking you for money up front in exchange for photos, a comp card and representation is a Portfolio Mill...

All the best on your journey...

250 or 2500?

If it seems like a scam then most likely it IS a scam but I don't see the typical red flags that I have seen on others scams. If it IS a flag make sure to report it like the previous person said.

Very well written. MM should use this as a template for all "Is this a scam" posts and inquiries with a tag: "If you have to ask..."

Not necessarily true. Different agencies work different ways, and YES, sometimes you have to pay for portfolio development and comp cards out of pocket.

You just have to be sure you're paying the right people.
