42, but there really was *a lot* of USA on that list. Yeah, absolutely not to be missed: Crater Lake, Yosemite, Devil's Tower, Zion, the Grand Canyon, and Redwood. I'd also add Bryce Canyon and Grand Teton/Yellowstone.

So... really, REALLY need to go to Australia and New Zealand.

Also... no Nanaimo? Really? hmm

I'd totally take Walt Disney World off that list and add Nanaimo.

At least Pacific Rim NP is on there (and rightly so!)

From Victoria to Cape Scott, Vancouver Island is just... no words. It just has to be experienced.

I've been to 11 out of the 100 places.  Not so bad.  I'd like to see the Pyramids one day, if things would ever settle down over there.

Edit:  Correction - I just noticed the Louvre.  So, I've been to 12 places.

So far I am blessed to have seen 52 on the list during my visits to 51 different countries.

I know it is hard to list only 100 places, out of the many great places to see in this world.  I  would have to add the following to the list...
...Amalfi Coast in Italy - one of the most picturesque places I have ever seen.
...the ruins of Ostia, which are better preserved than those in Rome.
...Santorini.  Watching the sunset over the island from a boat down in the crater is not to be missed.
...the island of Rhodes. It feels like you are in a movie set.
...Yellowstone National Park.  Old Faithful and paint pots are just a few things to see.
...Ephesus..it also awesome if you like ancient ruins.
...Palace of Versailles is amazing.
...Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg Russia
...the Na Pali Coast of Kauai Hawaii...see it by helicopter and take in Waimea Canyon and Mt. Waialeale (the wettest spot in the world)
...the Panama Canal...an engineering marvel for its time
...Giants Causeway and Cliffs of Moher in Ireland

I can go on and on as there are so many incredible places to see.  Still on my list are Antarctica and Cappadocia Turkey. This is Cappadocia...

On my last trip to Angkor Wat in 2003 I was amazed at the number of tourist buses lined up in tourist bus parking lots, bringing in package tourists by the plane load, and witnessing Koreans, Japanese, etc., breaking off chunks of facades and temples to take home as souvenirs. Destroying history like that pangs my heart.

There are more people now than the magnificent treasures of history, wildlife and culture can sustain.

Sadly, some of our most amazing sites are located in 3rd world countries that don't have the money or political will to do all that's needed to preserve the sites.

Are you sure it was Japanese? I'd find that a little hard to believe if you know anything about Japanese culture (old school). Now if it was a bunch of unsupervised Japanese high school kids, I could see that happening but not for Japanese over the age of 30. Just sayin'

Wouldn't surprise me at all. Some Japanese act very differently in other Asian nations than they do in their own. I sometimes think there are still vestiges of their pre-WWII/WWII attitude of treating all the rest of Asia as their "little brothers" that needed to be told what to do and were there for Japan to use as they saw fit.

Visiting Kyoto over 60 times since 1995, I'd say I'm a little biased. smile

hmm, aplogies missed your post smile .... over 60 times that impressive..sadly I could not afford to do that distance too far....don't get me wrong..I loved Kyoto..it was everything I loved, the tranquility..the beauty..the first place after 6 months of living there that I finally connected n felt Im in Japan, this is so wonderful n spectacular...meeting my aviatar n his friends...spent two days with them..taught me all I know on using eye expressions to get extra food at table. wink ...I would happily photograh them forever..meeting Meiko's n learning about their culture..Kyoto also not far from Oaska where my favourite photographer is /was ..no idea if he still there...the food ..Japanese culture etc...Sri Lanka though has more diverse land n marine wildlife..that put me in total bliss...However, number of things I did not like the food..nothing against curry I love it..just never came across any I liked...so lost a lot of weight when I was there..maybe not a bad thing :-) ...n as mentioned the endless scams...you only have to breath before someone tries to sell, ask you to invest..etc..it gets beyond tedious...I read elsewhere that it could drive people away....I don't know maybe in my dream I'd base myself in Kyoto..then have a seaplane to fly to Sri Lanka to photograph extra wildlife..then I'd be content.

....On young Japanese tourists destroying temples...oops I missed reading that too...I would say not just Japanese but Korean too .it not in either of their culture...the only kids in Japan who might do it..are the ones that ride motorbikes at 2mph reving their engines n carrying baseball bats....but they would not be able to afford to travel....wasn't sure whether Click was describing this was A place in Sri Lanka..could not remember the names of places I visited except where Blue Whales were...maybe it was one of many scams...n they were buying or allowed to take some fake culture....though I can't see that as Sri Lankens also very religious...If it was 2004...maybe I could slightly understand...many Japanese tourists got killed by Tsunami in Sri Lanka...but then since they suffer many tragedies they would be more empathetic...seems strange n I agree with Click ,sad ,whoever did destroy apart of history.

The 30 places I ticked are most certainly not in 30 countries - more like about 15 I'd guess.

The list is weird with a big bias towards Europe and the USA and some very notable destinations entirely missing.
