I'm not sure if it's from smoking the past 5 years, having a crappy diet, not enough vitamins, or all of the above, but I have the worst bags under my eyes. It's gotten to the point that make up doesn't even really help....ehhhh. I'm only 25.

Rub some Hemorrhoid Cream on them. Not joking.

Quit smoking, eat a healthier diet, drink plenty of water, and get enough sleep.

At least that will help!   wink

Suggesting a client use hydrocortisone on the sensitive under eye area as a makeup artist is placing a talent in harms way and opening one up for civil litigation...

It is posts like this that devalue Mayhem's stylist forum...
And adds fuel to to campaign to require licensing for makeup artist...

Please never use over the counter medication in a manner in which it is not approved...

Not all hemorrhoid creams have the same formula - AND - those formulas have CHANGED since this *trick* first became popular.

So...... NOT a safe suggestion.

Also know that under eye "bags" can also be normal anatomy. We're so inundated with overly edited images that we forget what real anatomy looks like sometimes.

I didn't always have them so I'm pretty sure it's from my shit diet and smoking. I just can't afford right now to eat more than ramen and frozen pizzas at the moment. lol. Also quitting smoking is easier said than done.

Sleep is your friend!  Ice mask in the morning for five minutes might help it. Vitamin E in your diet for your skin.  Cut down smoking or smoke a brand you don't like to cut down your desire to smoke. Drink lots of water and non alcoholic beverages.

Smoking over time makes you wrinkle. Never heard it causing bags under the eyes.

Bags under the eyes are pretty normal for most people.

Smoking can cause dark circles as it decreases flow of healthy blood to the the skin and the eye area is so thin this darker, deoxygenated blood can be seen.  Under eye puffiness can be caused by water retention and fatigue and poor, oversalted food.  Both of these conditions can also be genetic...plain and simple.

Lifestyle change will definitely help. Sometimes even sensitivities to certain foods will cause a lackluster appearance to the eye area but you have to start with habits.

Like the heart, lungs and liver; the skin is an organ. It has an amazing functioning and unfortunately is the first organ to malfunction when the body isn't being treated well.

No amount of creams will fix toxic, tired skin.

Cheers and happy blending!!

I definitely think then it's a combo of smoking, dehydration, and salty foods. That's too much to change at once sad I need to quit my caffeine addiction.

Genetically implicated 'bags' reveal themselves with aging. Yes to sorting out your diet, sleep and health, but don't be put off if this doesn't fix your bags.

You are really young to have those. Maybe partly genes and partly your lifestyle...?
Some comedic relief.

We've already discussed that Preperation H is NOT a good idea.

The Clarisonic Opal solves under eye puffiness on my actors when we start makeup at 5 or 6am. Can't start makeup without using this device first. It makes a huge difference under eyes.

I'm going to plan to eventually purchase this. Thanks for the tip!

Jocelyn,
You're welcome. The other device I use for facial puffiness (around cheeks) or bloating is NuFace microcurrent. It helps lift aging facial muscles too.

Girl you need to start living healthier... keep that up and bags under your eyes is gonna be the least of your problems in a few years time...Sorry for the tough love wink

If you find change hard, start with one.. I'd say lose the salt first.
Try to give the area under your eyes a bit of massage when you wake up..it might help a little

The easiest, most enjoyable and almost free way to reduce bags under eyes and look younger overall:  SLEEP and drink lots of WATER.

Make time to sleep more than you need for a while. The human body is self healing and can reverse a lot of the signs of unhealthy wear to an extent, especially at your age. It also makes you feel good. Naturally.

Of course you should absolutely change your diet and habits, but we know that will take some time and effort; but sleep and water is something that you can start doing right now with very little effort or cost and will have quick results.

Another pleasant side effect of lots of sleep and water: you will find your physical addiction and cravings to smoking and caffeine to be reduced and will be much easier to quit, than otherwise.
It will also put you in better moods and your brain to better handle stresses, which in turn will also, again, reduce the need for caffeine and smoking.

I say these things from both personal experience and close friends' experience (both male and female)

Start now while it is easier to make changes than when you get older when it is is next to impossible.

BTW, if you ever get out to Northern CA, I'd hire you for a shoot.
But I won't pay you with money. I'll only pay you with healthy foods, Brita filter and a Tempurpedic pillow. Ha.

Here's are some things to do:
1) get sleep
2) reduce salty foods especially late at night
3) drink tons of water
4) use frozen tea bags over eyes
5) remove all makeup every night and be gentle around the eyes
6) use instant cooling eye gel (a good one is from Boscia)

Thank you so much for your great question!

*One time, someone told me they were smile lines.*

That made me feel much better about myself;)
