I just heard....  Pete Seeger passed away

Pete Seeger:

""He was kept off commercial television for more than a decade after tangling with the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1955.

Repeatedly pressed by the committee to reveal whether he had sung for Communists,

Seeger responded sharply:     "I love my country very dearly, and I greatly resent this implication that some of the places that I have sung and some of the people that I have known,

and some of my opinions, whether they are religious or philosophical, or I might be a vegetarian, make me any less of an American."

He was charged with contempt of Congress, but the sentence was overturned on appeal.""

this is as "loss - filled"...... for me, ... as was the passing of Mary Travers; and the passing of Richie Havens.

Mary...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHdXbME4S_8       one of the most important songs in my life

I saw Pete long ago, at the Student Union building on campus in Fresno.

It is always amazing to see one single performer get up there with only their voice and an instrument and just pick an audience up and carry them off to a special place for an hour or so.

Thinking back, I am pretty sure my persistent infection to possess and play a 12 string guitar was largely instigated by this performance. He played it well, also plunked a fine banjo.

Truly one of the greats and a great American.

Rest in Peace Pete, you will be missed.

Great selections from Mary and Richie as well. Both superstars in their own right.

I watched the director's cut of Woodstock last year. I didn't know it at the time but it was right around then that Richie Havens passed on. I remembered thinking that Freedom was pretty OK when I was younger and saw the movie but this time it really connected. Dude put everything he had into that performance and got a standing ovation.

We will never see their kind again.
