Do you ever hand hold your umbrella?
to vary the lighting in a photoshoot instead if leaving it on the lightstand? Apr 19 14 10:52 am Link Why not just move the stand? Do you have some magic hands that can position the light in a way not possible with a regular lightstand? Apr 19 14 11:11 am Link Apr 22 14 02:50 am Link Yup - tried that only last week. It was a bitch. Mind you I didn't really have the proper attachments. Apr 22 14 05:21 am Link I hand hold a Mini-Softbox for my 550ex flash, or have someone hold it, and move around based on where I want them to stand. This also helps to increase/decrease the intensity for me, without fooling around with flash settings. Apr 22 14 05:37 am Link You could also put a light on a small jib arm, which makes flying it around a breeze. Apr 22 14 05:39 am Link I have found this to be the best approach: Apr 22 14 08:35 am Link I just let the models hold it: Apr 22 14 08:42 am Link Ummmmm...hmmmm....lemme think....well...in the last 40+ years...no. I move the stand and/or adjust the umbrella, reflector, model, or light source. I find that they are too heavy and delicate to be handling like that.
