How many photos do you typically get back from any given TF shoot, and what's the most/least you have ever gotten?
If any photographers happen to pop by, the same question for you (but how many you give).

I cull the shots to 80-100 and let the model pick 12.  I do the finishing on 6 of those for the model's use.

I usually promise the model 2 from each look, and usually give 2 or 3 more of my choosing.  So she ends up with 10 to 12 finished images.

12 is quite generous!

I think it's great you give the model so many to choose from.
I love having plenty to look at and make my selection from.

There really isn't a typical number. Anywhere from 2-30. I'm happy with 1-2 per look.

As a photographer, I do 4-6.

Really depend on type of shoot, and type of photography you are working on.

If Fine Art or Fashion shoot, normally it is pretty low number... few... only really finalized version that get to used are given, and few extra that is normally shot for model while on the set/location

Might have taken few hundred, but few will get finalized... that is all because amount of work required for each shot to realize vision photographer intended to create.

on other hand, if you shoot in photo journalistic style... then most of good batch can be given.

So, it is really depend on what is photo shoot's intention.

Is shoot in the manner that requires extensive Photoshop works afterward, or it only requires few cleaning?

In that sense it is similar to dark room era... photo that is intended for intensive darkroom work were given out very few copy.

On a TF fantasy or art concept I give back 1-2, sometimes 5 if a story develops as we shoot. If we're working on an editorial I'll give all the images I edit for editor review, 10-15.

0-25. Maybe 10 on average. I've only done TF where there was little to no post work done so my numbers will be higher than a lot of people's.

It happens. I got zero back on two shoots (technically I got a proof from one of them, but nothing else so I don't really count that.)

Did the photographer keep any for themselves or were there just not any useable shots for anyone?

The photographer didn't get what he wanted. I had worked with him before and got usable images. In this case instead of me traveling to another state to him he came to me. I guess it could have been worse.

No idea. They both dropped off the face of the planet (stopped signing into MM).

From the proof from the first set, there were definitely usable images.

When I contact a model and began working out the details I normally tell her I'll edit up to 10 or 12 of her choice. I'll also edit any ones that I like in addition to the ones she chose and send her those as well. I've edited as many as 30 or more. On more than one occasion I've looked through images from a couple of years back and one or two will catch my eye that got past me and I'll edit and send as well. Every model I've done this for seemed to appreciate it. To me the editing is a part of the hobby.

Aw no sad
There oughta be a "you haven't been on MM, people are trying to contact you!" type bat sign we can flash in the air.

I got an astonishing number back from a shoot I did the other day, the photographer really loved editing.

It depends on the shoot for me. After shooting, I'll scroll thru the photos and edit what I want, however many I edit is what they get. If the shoot is a pain and nothing is going right, then there are few. If it goes smooth and everything goes right, then I don't mind editing. A bad shoot 5ish, A good shoot, upwards of 40.

What does it matter? It's about useful and quality over how many. 1-3 per look of the very best, retouched on average for me.

I have zero use for 40 images of the same look.

My amount typically depends on the attitude of the model. I had a few recently that were a blast to shoot with. Braved the cold weather in bikinis and didn't complain, great attitude, did incredible work, punctual, came prepared. I drew up a contact sheet for each of them and asked them to pick their favorites, no matter how many there were. One ended up wanting thirty different images and I willingly did them.

I've had other models that controlled the entire afternoon, came hung over, came late. Those I usually limit to 5-7 of my choice.

I live by the rule that if they put the work in, then I owe them the same courtesy.

It varies. Work it out with the photographer IN ADVANCE.

I give 3-10 depending on how many I'm happy with and whether the model brings me cookies or not.

Generally 6 of the models choice plus 6 that the MUA chooses.

If I choose to edit others for myself then they get them too.

The bodypaint series is a little different, normally I do a single edit of my choice. Sometimes if we shoot a secondary poses that work well I'll do more than one.

When I shoot, the pre-shoot agreement is 10 images.  If the model performs well, I often lift that to 20.

One model asked for her favourite thirty, but added another 30 second favourites and a final group of 30 nice-to-have photos.

She was a totally awesome model, so I did all 90 for her.

As a model, I'd say I get back an average of 6 shots. Some photographers have given as many as 30; some as few as 1 or 2. In my experience, I generally prefer a couple of carefully selected and edited high-quality images over dozens of lower-quality shots.

As a photographer, I try to give back around 4-6 shots. Shooting with expired or destroyed film, it's not always possible to guarantee results.

If any photographers happen to pop by, the same question for you (but how many you give).

I give 2-3 retouched images for every hour of shooting.
I also give them in print if the models want it. (Professionally developed)

Most seem very happy with that.

It matters. What the photographer deems as useful may not be to the model, especially photographers who aren't used to shooting trade with models.

I prefer to look through 20 or 30 unedited low rez photos so I can pick shots that best show how I model, but I won't complain. tongue Realistically, I get from 2-10 web ready edits.

I aim to give 35 to 50 proofs and let the models chose 3 "must haves" and 6 or 8 favorites. I do the "musts" for them and compare my favs with theirs for the rest. I typically shoot 3 looks and finish out 6 to 12 photos. I deliver web-size fully retouched files by email -- with printable files and CD available on request.

I always explain to models that I do not guarantee numbers or delivery times on TF, but I try to be sure everyone gets portfolio quality photos of every look we shoot and I like to have everything delivered within 2 to 3 weeks.

We deliver high since we put together like 20-25 images for a facebook gallery, but that mirrors more our consumer-oriented business model (bridal and couples portraits). Usually that works out to 2-5 images per set-up (combination of model/look/setting).

If something is more fashion or concept oriented then we'll deliver less

It has varied so much from shoot to shoot that it's hard to really give an estimate to be honest. The minimum I've gotten from a shoot is one shot per look (as long as the looks turned out okay), but then I've had photographers who have given me every single image minus the obvious mess ups. If I had to ballpark... maybe 5 to 15 images for a shoot with two or three looks or lots of different art nude poses.

The least is one photo and then the most is over 200 photos, but none of those were edited and most I couldn't use. I usually get that with newer photographers who don't know how to edit. I have occasionally had other photographers give me over 100 shots as well, all of which were good shots, but some quite similar.

Oh, from the shoots that I didn't get anything other than the one proof back, he gave me a disc of all 200+ unedited photos. Useless.

Darn sad

Did you at least have permission from the photog to find someone else to edit the images?
