Where all retouchers Hangout ?
Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask if there are other forums, portals, blogs, etc where retouchers hangout apart from Modelmayhem and Retouchpro ? May 13 14 03:37 pm Link Starbucks May 13 14 08:22 pm Link we have to work so hard to keep getting business there is no time it hangout anymore. May 14 14 06:40 am Link ModelMayhem! Oh...wait I mean, something else. Haha. I dunno about others, but part of what I like about retouching is it allows me to be somewhat reclusive and behind the scenes. And as someone who enjoys such a lifestyle, I don't particularly like hanging out at many other places on the web dedicated to retouching at least. My attention span seems to limit me to just ModelMayhem unfortunately. But when I am in the mood for being social, I usually hit up social media, and comment on things from other retouchers or photographers. Facebook and DeviantArt are my first choices. May 14 14 06:48 am Link Facebook for sure May 14 14 07:14 am Link While I enjoy hanging out with other creatives on occasion there is simply not enough time to do it often. I am quite busy with clients work and it puts its restrains on social life. Sometime I also enjoy Skype talk/chat with fellow retouchers. Again when time allows. If we're talking online I would say most retouchers hang out here, at retouchpro and on FB/Twitter. There are few groups on LinkedIn, but they're very passive. May 14 14 07:50 am Link Retouching Academy Facebook page. May 14 14 11:36 am Link Leonor Vicente wrote: Would you like some fries with that spam? There are actually a lot of people on there, and some of them have really good advice. May 14 14 02:36 pm Link Greg Knoll wrote: Until they start to push their workshops and books. Not to mention the "demi-gods" they created of themselves, it's actually a pretty clever idea if you think about it. I got to hand it to them it's just advertising and marketing disguised as a "teaching" place. May 14 14 07:18 pm Link D A N wrote: It's a group, instead of a page so the set up is a bit different. Any member can post on the wall at any time, but they have rules against any sort of advertising/promotions/workshops from them. Now whether or not the admins pull it is another story. So far it just seems like a place for retouchers to congregate and share advice/pictures but I've only been on there a day, so we'll see. May 14 14 10:18 pm Link Greg Knoll wrote: I sure don't want to raise any controversy. Controversy is good for them. The last thing I want to do is encourage or create intrigue so that more people would go there. Greg Knoll wrote: They ALL do, not one doesn't use/promote/reference any stuff that doesn't include that quick trick. May 14 14 10:31 pm Link Greg Knoll wrote: So very few are interested in this extremely important topics that it rarely discussed on public forums and on FB. I prefer to talk about it in closer circle with people who do creative stuff for a living and not as a hobby and actually want to be paid good money for their work. Those guys understand importance of all those subjects you mentioned. May 15 14 11:12 am Link Behance May 15 14 11:40 am Link D A N wrote: That's exactly what I was talking with my business partner last week. A place like this doesn't exist hence my original posting question just to prove if I was wrong but unfortunately I was right. It got way over their hands... and heads. Freelance Retoucher wrote: I'm all for setting one up! I know everybody needs to make money and can't just live on giving away their knowledge for free but it'd be refreshing to find a place where they're not constantly selling you stuff and it's just to hang out. Diego, I read on your interview that you're planning on setting up a blog, that would be really cool! I kinda don't want to see another FB group but I guess that's the direction that social interactions are heading. May 17 14 08:39 am Link I recently found a retouchers meeting group on meetup.com. It's a monthly meeting held at the digital lab at SVA in New York. It's a varied mix of people, although most seem to be aspiring retouchers rather than working professionals. The person running the group is a working retoucher and I've learned quite a few useful things by attending. Perhaps there's something like it in London, and if not, you could start something similar. May 17 14 09:48 am Link D A N wrote: Yes, I think this is what we retouchers need. You can see it in any other industry, call it photography, graphic and web designers, etc. Where other professionals are happy to share and give back to their community. May 17 14 09:55 am Link Natalia_Taffarel wrote: I was just answering a question, I'm sorry if you thought it was spam... next time I will refrain myself from posting here. In the end all the ansewrs that aren't vague are spam, in this case. May 17 14 10:47 am Link I'd be up for getting involved, as I've just moved to London it would be useful to have a local meet up and then possibly continue any discussions online in some form May 19 14 03:30 am Link Natalia_Taffarel wrote: Whew. I thought I was going crazy for a minute there. I've never seen a place with so many overcooked, botched, blurred images and the only responses were things like "great job" or "keep up the good work". May 19 14 12:48 pm Link I spend most of my time of facebook now May 19 14 03:13 pm Link D A N wrote: hahaha, so true, and some of those demi-gods are not so good after all if you check their work , i got my comments erased when i gave them my feedback, haha. As far as online, MM is my preferred site for retouching info thanks to the kind, talented and knowledgeable people on here . Anyway i'll pop along to collect my Wacom tablet May 22 14 09:09 am Link I would not go here for critiques at all, but I get a lot of my business related questions answered on retouchpro. What do you guys think of their forums? Also, I know it's not strictly for retouchers, but freelancersunion.org has proven to have some very useful articles about the business side of freelancing. And not boring stuff! May 22 14 02:37 pm Link DevKevin wrote: TRUTH. I for one need/wish i had more Retouching friends to talk to vent to and bounce ideas off of, sadly i only have one and she's rather intimidating. May 27 14 10:16 am Link I am always looking for other professional retouchers to hang out with if anyone is ever in Portland, oregon USA. Since all I talk about is retouching and my fiends are getting tired of it haha. I too prefer to discuss business, strategy, marketing, attracting clients and keeping your eyes healthy. If u hear the words frequency separation one more time. I'll lose it. I don't know why all of these people keep asking for more tutorials in FS. If you know what it's called, then you know what it is and you know how and when to use it. None of these tutorials will make you better. Only time, practicing your craft and constantly seeking out quality work will. Jul 11 14 12:20 am Link |
