I would think my singing to a model would win the day.
Otherwise, I do music CD's in the studio - Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Elton, James Taylor and the blues.

Most of the time when shooting at my home studio, we put on Pandora and the models pick.  I like listening to the variety of music out there.

One time a Russian model asked if she could put on her inspirational music.  It was male and female choruses singing in Russian (of which I do not speak at all). It was actually uplifting and I had no clue what was being said.

As long as it's NOT: The Eagles, REO Speedwagon, Air Supply, Foghat, Bruce Springsteen, or Aerosmith, I don't care.

Play whatever you want, just not that ^^

I'm fond of shooting with music like Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, classic jazz, also soul music. Everyone likes that, for the most part.

Nothing honestly. Music is a distraction that I tune out if I don't like it.

If I did want to listen to music at a shoot the genres would be all over the place.

I'm another who would prefer no music because it can be distracting. If there has to be music, the best choice is something more on the classical end of the spectrum, even though I might not listen to that type very often. I definitely would not want to have rap, hip-hop or any of the other current kinds of music.

But any music is fine as long as it's not country music.

I've always had models ask for music, I let them plug in their iphones so long as it isn't heavy metal or country I'm fine with it. LOL

"as long as its not country" lol usually when I'm listing options/suggestions i skip country as well.
I never like the music loud when shooting but I usually have something playing. End up tuning it out anyways after shooting starts.

I actually prefer no music. My first comment was a joke, apparently a bad one.

I agree and I like Aerosmith alot.
I think the best music during a shoot is stuff that doesn't engage the listener too much. Good in the background to provide a mood but not something that forces you to engage with it.

Depends on the shoot. If i'm shooting domme-y fetish, metal. Clubwear? Probably EDM. Pin-up will probably be 40's/50's big band.
Whatever gets me most in the mood for what i'm trying to convey.

It depends on the shoot, but I LOVE posing to music. I usually love classic rock, but for modeling I tend to like something with a quick tempo and often end up in current alternative/ pop rock/ rock.

I'm actually surprised so many find it a distraction-- I never knew!

But I should add, I try to remember to mention the option for the model to plug her/his phone into the stereo system.

I always play Hank Williams Sr. Old Country Music.

When I put on Hey, Hey Good Lookin the models go wild, they start dancing and singing, it is fantastic... :-)

If you believe that how would you like to buy the Golden Gate Bridge today...real cheap?

Any uptempo music, easily.

Something fun and poppy for commercial.  Something more club-esque for fashion.  Something that makes me want to dance.

I once did a shoot while basically dancing all over the place to the "Sexy Chick" song and it pains me to say I have no photos from it (or a video of me letting loose for the entire song).

I hate having the pre-shoot music conversation. I usually try to leave it up to the photographer, but most of the time they try to pressure me into playing something off my iPod instead. Most of the music I listen to is extreme metal. It's not good for shooting and it'll usually weird someone out. Just...put Pandora on or something. :S

I have never listened to music during a shoot (although it sounds fun) but it depends.

Some of my favorites include Billy Squier, The Rolling Stones, Def Leppard, Robert Palmer, Panic! At The Disco, and Green Day. Definitely bands that could lighten up my mood, make me feel comfortable, etc.

I will generally ask a model if she has a preference for (or against) anything. Sometimes she'll say "nothing, please" and we don't have music. Sometimes she'll ask for a specific group or genre of music, and I cue that up on Pandora. Sometimes she'll say "Whatever" and I'll get to trot out my synthpop collection. smile It's all good to me.

And usually, if the model expresses a negative preference, it will be that she doesn't like "modern country".

Soul, Jazz, Classical Music....really anything slow and peaceful that can put me in the mood. Funny that I've never had to make a request. The artists I've worked with always say "you look like the ___(insert genre listed above) type."

Eh, lucky me.

I get into the music too sometimes.  On a recent shoot there was a good dance song that came on, can't remember what it was.  The model started dancing to it.  I shot pictures.  At some point I started dancing too and the model laughed.  We were having a bit too much fun, so back to shooting. smile

classical hip hop jazz 60's-90's , Gregorian chants ... the only thing i'll skip  over is 10000lb of bananas... +  peter & the wolf ... both just drag me down...

occasionally the model brings their own & we play that / doesn't matter

I am open minded about music but it would be cool to have the music match the theme of the set if both sides of the cam can get a feel for the shoot from that.

For example,  retro pin up: Buddy Holly, richie valens, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash. big_smile

that would be fun. Can't speak for other models though.
