Hello all
I am just curious where all of you find your paid castings. I know that there are some here, but currently in my area its slim pickings. I know that there are a lot of scams out there and while i can point out the obvious ones, i may not catch a well disguised scam. What websites do you all use to find paid castings?

Backstage.com is a pretty reliable website for castings.

List your email. Sometimes people without MM accounts look through the site for models for small commercial or art projects that don't have the budget or need to go through an agency.

A lot of inappropriate offers also come through this way. Scams are always pretty obvious.

Personally, I would strongly recommend the exact opposite.

If someone is taking the time to look through this site for legitimate purposes, if they can't be bothered to have an account to contact you here, it seems unlikely they are really worth dealing with.  It is not like there is a difficult threshold to get an account.

Additionally, inappropriate offers that come through MM's system can be reported to MM, if you give a direct email address to strangers, you're just making it easier on them to get away with it.

Lastly, scams are not the only thing to be concerned about when giving out your email, there are other ways that email addresses can be used against you.

I'm sorry, but the benefits don't seem to outweigh the risks to really agree with that recommendation.

So you're suggesting someone doesn't have the intelligence to take care of themselves on the internet, they need Uncle MM to do that for them, and it's a HORRIBLE risk to list ones email? roll

I know more than a dozen models a few in this area, many who travel thru who've gotten VERY gainful employment from someone who finds models on MM, does not have an account here, & finds folks who make their contact information known. He has no interest in having a MM account, and has legitimate reasons for him not to do so.

That's only one example, I've seen plenty more over the years.

Besides if you think MM's track record of "taking care" of people is gold, I'll send you my listings of bridges for sale this month. smile

You need to protect yourself, but you can't get work if people can't find you.

Set up a separate email account for modeling - I'd suggest a web-based account with Gmail, Yahoo or even old AOL for a little extra protection from viruses. Be very cautious about downloading or opening any attachments. But be sure to check it regularly - ideally at least once a day. Or arrange forwarding to your regular address.

A separate phone number is also a good idea.

There are some risks in modeling, but it's probably no worse than going to a bar on Saturday night or driving on a busy freeway.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I will open a new account and at least have that on there. I will also check out that website.

Google Voice is good.  You can just throw the number away if you have to.

Which sections? All I'm seeing is the adult section, and "show biz/audition" under jobs which is like acting (and only has six total listings).

But you have to PAY them in order to contact "someone" behind an audition posting to reserve a spot.

Isn't paying someone to get hired for work or even audition illegal?

Why would it be? Middlemen exist for all kinds of things.

Uhhh. No. It's not illegal at all. It's how a lot of casting sites work. They take your money upfront to act as middlemen rather than taking a cut like agencies.

Hey all,

A few places I've scoured are:
1. Facebook model groups - ones specific to my region
2. Twitter and instagram - checking for tags such as #chicagomodel or #chicagocastingcall or some combination of both
3. Craigslist! - I know most people have their reservations when going to this site, but it's where I've had the most success. Of course you have to be wise and avoid scammers, but if you look hard enough you can find some up and coming designers, photographers, and general project directors looking for a model to hire!

But there is no guarantee of work? If it were not illegal, how do we know we are not literally paying for nothing?

I have gotten nude work off of Fetlife as well as Craigslist. I have gotten paid work(nude and non-nude) here by looking at photographer's profiles. Sometimes they will list that they have special projects that pay.

backstage.com, onemodelplace.com (I don't particularly like this site, but I know it's one that models use.), actorsaccess.com, NYcastings.com, craigslist.com (sparingly and with caution. I do not take one-on-one photo shoot jobs off of craigslist. I use it to find things like commercial shoots with a team, film-extra work, and runway events.), always hashtag your images on tumblr and instagram with your name and your state and your area of industry. for example #glassolive #nycmodel #brooklynmodel
#eastcoastmodel #model are hashtags I use A LOT. I get a good amount of paid, legitimate, and professional work off of instagram and tumblr. if you post your modeling work and build a fan base this is an moderately effective way of getting bookings.
and never underestimate the power of reaching out to a photographer (or designer, or makeup artist, or whatever) over their website or model mayhem. regardless of what I've read on the forums, it's NOT rude to contact someone to let them know you're a model in the area, and you would like to be considered for any up-and-coming paid work they might have. A professional will know that this is part of the industry, and will keep you in mind.
and you never know if you don't ask.

good luck smile
