Ideas and advice for retouching for skin would be greatly appreciated!

The reason for patchy skin is that you didn't shoot with enough light.

Try adjusting the colors first in camera raw, then I would go for a bit of frequency separation to even out the skin tones.

Looking at your Exif data your ISO was set to ISO 640. This could add to the problem. So I ran your image through Lightroom and here is a smooth result.

looks too smooth to me the texture is gone like a filter or blur was applied. I dunno maybe he's not after a hi end look.
