Do you all create shot sheets or shot lists prior to a shoot that would list ideas such as poses, props, location, lighting setups and so forth and if so do you share those ideas with the model before hand or just keep it to yourself for your own knowledge?

good question to ask...always make a list for sequence of shoot, the concepts, because the model needs to be prepared for your ideas if paid, or involved with the process if TF...other than that...your the photographer...

Depends. When I do a shoot that involves props I make a list for two reasons. First is to remember to bring them and the second is to remember to use them. Usually I forgot one thing and then at the shoot skip over using two of them. I may make a list of things like "model with saddle" or "model with horn" but that's as far as I go.

When I shoot portraits or fine art I just show up with equipment and let the situation give rise to the shots.

On commercial gigs I tend to have things very planned out. I have literally sketched out the photos before with exact posing and placement of things as well as lighting diagrams.

When I do model tests or portfolio shoots, I don't do this. I source inspirations shots, and will do a moodboard to give everyone on set a general feel and direction for the shoot, but I try and focus more on creating emotion and capturing that as opposed to having everything perfectly planned out. I am more spontaneous.

Some of the better shoots is where I let the MUAH person time me for various themes, say jewelry or clothing changes.  Otherwise I get wrapped up in one thing and don't get to the rest and might overlook it.  She generally gives me 20 minutes per change of whatever.

Often the model is the last to know as I go over a lot of the preliminary stuff with the MUAH person and what I need to cover, then let the model and her work it all out once the model is in her chair.

Hmmmm interesting. Yea normally on a TF shoot, I don't prepare any shot sheets but I have ideas in my head of what I want to try or do. I have a shoot this weekend that will be paid shoot and I wanted it to be planned out but didn't know if I needed to share the sheet with the model. The main thing we have discussed so far is outfits she will be wearing. In a way, I kinda want to share the info with her just so she knows ahead of time what my vision is for the shoot. I don't know if she needs to know every little detail like lighting setups and so forth.
