Hello everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this.  I just recently began modeling at the beginning of the summer and have been using Model Mayhem to get jobs.  Recently, I applied for what seemed, and may actually be a legitimate opportunity.  It was a nationwide commercial product shoot ad on MM.  I received an email and everything seemed normal besides this part...

"In addition, an advanced deposit of $400 shall be mailed upfront to you to insure your engagement on the upcoming project with us in line with our business ethics. More also, your wardrobe bills will not be from your personal pocket, however, you will not only receive a certified paycheck of $400 but also an extra amount that you will use to pay for your wardrobe bills which you will forward to the Designer in charge of your Wardrobe after cashing the check along with your measurements. Therefore, you must have an active Bank Account to deposit the check you'll be receiving, all you need to do is to go to your Bank and deposit the check yourself to your account to take care of your wardrobe/costume bills and upfront payment. I hope this is clear?"

Being new to the industry, I'd hate to assume it's a scam and miss an opportunity.  Is this common practice?  Any stories or knowledge is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Pat Petrone

It must be too early for everyone else to reply.

YES! It is a scam. Ignore it/them.

The check they send you is no good and you don't find out until you send the "extra" to whoever they're telling you to.

It was an advertisement that you replied to? Or a casting call?
Either way, it's a scam and you should report it to us.

They have used this scheme again in this casting: https://www.modelmayhem.com/casting/2311048 The only difference is that now the sum is $300 instead of $400. Beware!
