Like, any liquid. It's actually been water each time. I've choked to the point of having to pick between dying or violently expelling the water from my mouth and/or nose two or three times in a month, and several more times in the past.

It's quite disconcerting.

welcome to the club !!

While it may seem strange, I've found that trying to remember to keep the activities of breaking and swallowing separate has helped considerably.

No, I'm not kidding.

Yeah, when I think about it, I'm fine. It's when I try to do it out of instinct that it happens... if that makes sense.

I don't know why it's never happened with food though. Maybe I'm just more aware when I'm eating.

Christ.  My wall is now splattered with coffee.

I'm surprised I haven't worn the paint off of it with as many times as it's been cleaned.

Idk can that be just a sometimes thing? It never happens with food.

I have GERD (sexy) and am seeing a new doctor next month so maybe I'll bring it up.

I think your choking problem is related.  I have GERD and can choke on my own saliva.  Be sure to ask your doctor.

I concur.  My sister does swallowing therapy at a rehab hospital, and I asked her about this.  She says that GERD can cause damage to the tissues involved in swallowing and lead to problems like aspiration of fluids.

Probably but they'll just be like, "well be more careful."

See a speech pathologist and they'll know what's up.
