I'm feeling really down and really need some advice here... Here is the dillema:

A year ago I got a deal with a hotel stay in Vegas. 4 people. $25/Night. I set the date for my birthday the following year. All that needs to be taken care of is the transportation there.
I got 3 friends to agree to accompany me. Fast forward to today. couple weeks before we should be booking tickets, everyone backed out because they're "broke". Running out of time and options I have two decisions:

A)Go to Vegas alone? (Spend pretty much $1000 on a lonesome trip)

B) Or lose $200 that I put into the Hotel? (AGAIN?! This is like the 4th time similar circumstances has happened)

Help? What's Vegas like (By yourself)?

Vegas is what you make it. Plus, who says you will be by yourself?  There are other people here... just saying... smile

i wouldnt go to vegas alone.. but thats me.

but as someone said, there are others that live in vegas that you might be able to meet up with. i think you should ask your friends to hawk up the money for the hotel even though they are "broke"

As much as I do love doing things by myself... One of two things can happen. I can go and have a shitty ass time and waste money that I don't have to waste... OR there is that possibility of enjoying myself with strangers which I tend to do on all of my lonesome adventures.

These friends are good friends in some ways and bad in other ways... They are definitely not good in the way that they'd still help with the loss of the Hotel unfortunately. sad

Ah well, worth a try I suppose.

Seriously though, I'm sorry this happened to you. My advice would be to try to find one other person, even if not a best friend to go with you. Getting a hotel room in Vegas for $50 is still an amazing deal.

Going alone? I'm not the type of person who would enjoy Vegas alone, but if you make friends easily, go for it.

Thanks for the compassion. I really need that right now sad

I did actually try to find others though, too last minute for em.

I went to Vegas alone for my very first time back in March. It's not a scary place...then again I'm the girl that walks down dark alley ways for fun.

I'm heading to Vegas next month and paying my own way once again. I'd say go if you can afford it, if not then just eat the $200 and move on.

I'm going to Vegas next week by myself. Had some airline miles that needed to be used, and it's a fun place. Mind you, I don't gamble and I can only really stand to be in Vegas for 48-72 hours before I need to exit all the concrete and Neon. My main worry is I won't be able to fit everything in that I want to do.

When you book most hotels they just put a reserve on your credit card.  They don't actually charge it, so it's extremely possible that if you cancel your reservation you won't be charged.

I learned that the hard way when a friend came from Curacao and used up most of the funds available on their credit card for entertainment because they THOUGHT they paid for the hotel at the time of booking.

This was the way two out of two of the hotels did it, and I just booked a Marriott in another state that does the same thing.

Also, $25/night seems awfully low for most of the hotels.  The places that advertise those kind of rates usually charge an additional daily 'resort fee' which can actually double the tab... and this still doesn't include the room tax and sales taxes.

The resort fee is a profit making gimmick that's used to make people think they're going to get an extremely low rate and helps put the room at the top of the list during most internet searches.  It's NOT a tax.  Most regular price to high end hotels don't have a resort fee.

The lowest price hotels that I know of include the El Cortez, Four Queens, Riviera, and Palace Station.  There's probably a few more in the same price range.  The El Cortez is the lowest for just under $40/night including resort fee (but not taxes).  Most of the other buget hotels seem to hover around $50 or $60/night with the resort fees included.

The Quad is a decent hotel and located center strip... can't really ask for a better location and you can always get a room for $25/night... Planet Hollywood, Hard Rock, weekdays $35/night + resort tax.

Anyways go and book some shoots.

I got it on like a time share deal. Meaning I have to sit in on one of their tours during my stay, so it is in fact already paid for - I asked a million and 1 questions to assure that it is infact $200 for the entire 4 days. And I get $100 refunded to me upon arrival.

Vegas can be great, Vegas can suck! I think Dave's reply was spot on. It is what you make of it.

I will be back out there Sunday so if you are there after that and want to shoot, or just meet a fellow MM member send me a message. smile

the hotel wouldn't cut you any slack?

i'd be inclined to see if i could find someone else who wanted to come along. i haven't been there myself but i imagine vegas is a good way to test a budding relationship. and if things go well you can do a quickie wedding!

and next time maybe get all the money upfront before booking if it's non-refundable. come to think of it i generally won't book anything that's non-refundable.

LOL! You're right. It's about time I get married.
