Understand that modeling in general (and especially male modeling) is a very competitive business.

Understand that nothing determines modeling rates more than the local supply & demand of similar talent.

So, ...
...  What do you offer than your competitors cannot?
...  What do your competitors charge?
...  How do you get the word out to potential customers?
...  Etc.

Also, understand that a modeling business is 10% modeling & 90% business.  The business part includes, marketing, communication, scheduling, accounting, negotiating, and so forth.  Spend some time in obtaining &/or improving these skills.

Finally, put together an exceptional portfolio, showing your range & talents.

And put yourself in the shoes of your local photographers -- why should they hire you when that can get similar talent to work for TF*?

Good luck.

Well you've been a member on Model Mayhem for over 3 years and don't have much in your port to show. I think you may have to give it a few more weeks smile

Build a port that will make people want to pay you.

OP: No offense, but you are very naive. I would suggest to start testing with photographers to build a portfolio first. Or, alternatively, find agencies that might specialize in the genre/s that you may be interested in and pitch to them. Once you have a solid portfolio either way, and also in the mean time, network your a** off until you know everyone in the business and then some. I am not kidding. Hard work and dedication are the only things that can make you successful. You have to make it happen. No one will do it for you, and it is very competitive as others have stated. You are also going to have to do a LOT of testing (aka free) shoots to build your book before folks will start paying you. If you are not willing to put in the time to pay your dues, I would suggest an alternative career choice. Modeling, or any creative gig for that matter is not anything that is going to be a get rich quick scheme. It is something that you have to love first, and then you will be very lucky if you get to make a career out of it. Good luck!

When I direct a project and have to hire a crew for $5000+, this is what I look for in a camera person:

A wide variety in their port showing they can handle different conditions and specific requirements set by the director.

A possession and experience with the use of professional equipment (XDCAM, Red, a couple of 1000k lights, curtains/rigging/etc).

Most importantly an attitude that he or she is there to work for me and spend time to get the exact shot that I want and is able to devote several days for that.

What does what you look for in a camera person have to do AT ALL with the OP wanting to get paid?

1.  Get really good at what you do
2.  Develop a signature look
3.  Network and market the hell out of yourself
4.  Hope you catch a break

Why would I pay you and not so and so? If you can answer that, and then market that, you will have a chance at getting paid.

OP you want someone tell you the BLUEPRINT to getting paid but if we tell you then thas less money in our pocket. There is secret meetings and things. WE got a secret handshake. Cant let you know the secret that easy. There's a guy you gotta call, name's Buck Cherry. Straight to the point, he the man. People know that name from the east coast to the west coast and all the puddles in between. Buck Cherry.

I probably told you too much already. But don't worry about "portfolio development" and all that bs. People talk about passion and hard work, HA! You want to get paid? It's one name you need to know... Buck Cherry. That's Level 1. Level 2 gunna leave you walking funny for a few days but it passes. Level 3 you gotta eat a dozen raw eggs and drink a bottle of smirnoff. That's all the levels I can tell you right now, brah.

MM does not allow Adult Industry Networking.

If you want work other kinds of work-go get a few solid photos, complete your profile with measurements and profile pic, make an availability notice, and go find agencies in your area that have work.  To most people, your profile is missing all the things most people expect from serious models.
