I was wondering if anyone knows if this is a cockroach or beetle? It's completely all black except for the legs. The legs are like a brown in color. The photo just has some dust particles on it, and the white is the camera reflection.

No expert, but I'd guess it was a beetle.

Still, there are many species of cockroach, maybe it's one I haven't seen before. I've had luck identifying weird-looking bugs by googling a description of them. I don't remember enough about it to find an image now, but I captured some kind of Australian hornet or something once a few years ago.

The thing with cockroaches is that you rarely get only one of them.

"coleoptera carabidae"

Predatory ground beetle - a good guy

If he could catch a roach - he'd eat it.

It's a beetle. Cockroaches have slimmer bodies and more dark brown than black.

I think.

Cockroaches are pretty easily identifiable.

And if you get a really bad infestation of them, you'll see them actually run away when you walk into a dark room, then flip the lights on.

I only lived in one house, ever, that got roaches and it was because I had a roommate who would eat in his room and leave dirty dishes in there. That's all I could figure. I've never had them before, or after, that one situation.
