First, this isn't about you so much, as the lack of styling. The merchandise looks awful. Lots of wrinkles, too many shadows, etc. if you are selling clothes, then the clothes have to look good.

I would also prefer a detached look rather than an on camera look.......looking at the camera, is pretty much an amateur kind of thing.

Not bad,
I wish there was more of a hair light- his head/hair fade into the dark background. the wrinkles in the clothing are distracting as well as the reflection of the light on the background

That second one you posted- the post work is awful!!
No fake out b&w please

For the love of god, please read some basics of wearing a suit. Bottom button is ALWAYS unbuttoned. You button it and you immediately look like a person who only puts up suit when going to job interview. Not to mention the suit is clearly untailored and a very bad fit for the model. If you don't know anything about it and have no interest in finding out - hire somebody who knows.

I didn't know this was trying to sell a suit.
I thought it was some sort of movie poster.
I thought the model is an actor.

Rule #11
Never fasten the bottom button of a double-breasted jacket (unless it has only a single row of buttons).
Got it wink

I'd choose a better background to photograph him intront of. The light looks ugly on it.

Agree with the need to use a hair light, but you're kinda stuck since the highlight on his forehead is already too much, and you wanted half of his face in shadow.  I would also retouch some of the blemishes on his face.
I just keep looking and can't figure out the light on his right collar, but full shadow on his right face and right forehead, did you add the wall? There had to be a 2nd  overhead light/reflector, but the right forehead and hair are still dark.  Looks like it should have been perfect for the hair light.
Chapped lips stand out. Adds contrast with the suit.

i should have used a reflector to bring out hair more, thank you for the retouch suggestion, i was so worried about the rest of the image i didn’t give that much time.

I don't see anything in the photo that make me see a "story".

It looks like he was going for a fashion look. Especially with the model holding onto the tie and his expression.

Maybe try a portrait style crop so people wont see all the problems with the suit.
