Hey everyone,

I'm looking for critique and suggestions on how to improve. I have only done two shoots so far, so complete newb. I want to create good habits before making bad ones. Don't worry about sugar coating it. The goal is to learn.

Thanks!

Not sure what you are going for. This thread title is 'Newbie looking for critique' but you've been here for 2 years. If you're calling yourself a newbie after 2 years, that infers you're not too serious, which is OK. Asking for critique infers that you are serious, which is OK. But it's a little confusing, and leaves me wondering what you're after. Do you have some written goals?
Your profile says that Action Shots are your strong point, but your port only has 2 pics of somebody on a bike. Your muscle pics have lighting that doesn't enhance muscle definition. The blurry pic of you with a plate of food,,,, why?  The blackout silhouette with a scenic lake,,,, why? Put those on Facebook if you want, but neither of those show any modeling skill or characteristics.
Your port does say that you are just having fun with modeling, which is fine, but it's really hard to achieve 'success' without a goal. It's really hard for anyone to give you useful advice if they can't tell what your goals are.
Make a wishlist.
Post some action shots that show you; preferably not in dark, baggy clothes that cover everything but your face and hands.

Thanks for the assessment.

I see what you mean and how that's confusing. In short I have always been too busy to take it seriously or invest any time other than making a profile. Now I want to take it seriously. And yes, I need to sort out what my concrete goal is.

I'm having a good laugh at those photo's. Those don't belong at all!

I have my homework set out for me. Thanks for taking a look. I really appreciate it smile

Ps. You have a beautiful port and love your avatar

Your work looks better than the people who are giving you critiques.

I like this one.  Strong connection with the camera.

Not sure what the concept here is exactly, but it doesn't work for me and neither does the yellow and blue lighting.  I don't shoot males very often, but have never noticed them extending their feet (pointing their toes) like this, even when seated.

One bike shot is enough and this isn't the better of the two:

Great smile!  Strong commercial/lifestyle shot.

While the "finish" of this image is a little rough, it is the one which shows your physique the best.  Much better than the shower shot which distorts your proportions.  I think reshooting this with a swimming theme (at the edge of a pool with some moody lighting) would be killer.

This one should go.

I hope that's helpful.

Thank you both, Jason and David.

David that is very helpful. I like you're idea of a swimming/pool theme. That would be a lot of fun. Also I see what you mean about the other shots. I really appreciate the feedback!

I personally dislike the black and white headshot, I don't think the lighting compliments your face.
I think both the shower and the one against the wall are your strongest, the lighting is great and you look great.
The one that is your avatar is also good, the lighting and colors are interesting and your chest looks great, not a fan of whatever you're sitting on though, its super wrinkled in the photo.
For the clothed shot against the wall, I'd say get a better stylist and take this photo out. It makes you look a lot older than 24 and you just don't look like you're having a great time.
Love the smiling black and white photo, your face looks great and is well lit. I would suggest doing some more shoots and smiling during them as your smile is really really great!

All in all I think you just need to build your port more, you have a strong look and seem to be learning what poses work for you.
