October 18, 2009 6:41am Very interesting, the way the man is connecting so strongly with the viewer and cradling the mother's belly. By facing her away from the camera and using that "heroic" angle, she becomes more of an icon of motherhood, than an actor in the image. She's not really interacting with the viewer, or with him. By her expression, perhaps she is contemplating the future. Her shirt even seems to be man-tailored, and his hand gesture seems to say "This is *my* baby." The overall impression is definitely about masculinity, and perhaps masculine power.
