About Me

Amelia Winger-Bearskin is a Multi-Media Performance artist, who works with time based art and experimental film in her installations, gallery shows and performance pieces.  She has drawn on her background in theatre, dance, poetry, directing, vocal opera performance, music composition/performance and fine art / digital art skills to create one of a kind performances and artworks that have been featured in magazines, galleries and theatres around the world.  She draws from inspiration from her Native American Background as well as her Jewish heritage.  She is a member of the senaca-cayuga tribe, and her mother is a world-renowned storyteller who has shared the stories of her tribe with vast diverse audiences.  Many of Amelia’s artworks are based on native legends and spiritual ideals, she seeks to blend the new digital media and performance art with the traditional unifying qualities of storytelling to create a bridge for all native people to find expression in the modern art world.  She received her undergraduate in Performance Art from George Mason University in Virginia and is currently studying at University of Texas at Austin for her Master of Fine Arts, in Transmedia/Experimental Film.  She is honored to have received a Diversity fellowship from the University of Texas at Austin to honor students who work for developing and progressing recognition of diversity in their community and university.
