Half-Thai, half-Angolan, born in Philadelphia, Kennedy DeSousa can be seen on the streets of Los Angeles, making photos of musicians and people with tattoos. He brings his studio lights to the neighborhoods some folks would not dare to come to at any time of the day.
Kennedy has a professional art painting background.
“Mixing flash lights and day light helps me to create photos looking like paintings”, he says.
Location scouting is a big part of his creative process. He spends a lot of time finding the perfect spot.
During the photo shoot Kennedy “juggles” two Nikons and changes the position of the lights all the time, so it’s very dynamic and always aligned with the natural light. He would ask you to think of smurfs or “pupsicals” (whatever they are), if he wants to bring a smile into your eyes or just remove your “camera face”.
“I can shoot anything in any situation”, Kennedy says.
And everyone who was in front of his camera can confirm it.
