I can only hope for poetry. More photos in the portfolio above.
For a brief moment we form a partnership. We dance, we flirt and we pursue a frozen moment that says something special about you and about me. Our lives are so immersed in partnership that these artistic images of you have universal appeal. By our very nature we look to see who is near and reach out. In one glimpse we are sure of a whole story, often believing we know the most vital part of someone in just a glance. What's special about a still image vs. say video is you have time to really look the person / picture up and down and decide so many things about how you feel towards that image. that person.
I love this about photography it is completely playful, taking both of our graces to work. What I try to do in my images is bring one more party to the picture. The partnership that we are born with is this world. It is our heaven, sometimes our hell but, always our partner. I love the art of being in a found place; somewhere that partnership feels beautiful, intimate and lifts our spirits. This is what I strive for in this expression of art, to take found places and add our dance to them so that others will recognize the beauty of our place in this amazing world.
Capturing something essential about femininity is another challenge. You are the most fragile soul imaginable and yet, you have given birth to us all. There can be a certain fierceness to femininity that I have always been attracted too, painfully so! I have fought with this juxtaposition for a long time. I have tried to portray both Goddess and Quiet Snow White purity. Each brings us to our knees. There will always be a reason that the breathlessness and beauty of a single woman caused a thousand ships to sail in rage. Thus, I am inspired by Helen of Troy but just as in awe with the timeless stillness of someone softer and more Eastern or Yoga oriented, maybe the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi. To portray the spirit of 2 women, to that I succumb. To that I aspire.
