Thank you for viewing my portfolio.
I approach portrait photography as a way of expressing something that can’t be said with words. It is both serious and at the same time playful. It is a way of saying something about life, desire, joy and sadness through the eyes. I love to work together with special models to create something together. It is not about “taking” pictures; it is the creative process – it is “making” pictures – and more.
If this appeals to you, read on.
I like what William Eggleston said, “I never know beforehand. Until I see it. It just happens all at once.”
If you ask me to describe the concept of our shoot, even before we’ve met or had a dialog, I will not be able to do that. Yes, I have many ideas that I’m waiting to produce, waiting for the suitable model that fits that idea. When I meet a model, get to know her personality and her look, new ideas suddenly crop up in my mind. My approach relies heavily on this discovery, the chemistry between photographer and subject. I welcome the model’s ideas, as well, and love spontaneity. Some of my favorite shots were spur of the moment detours, and opportunistic embraces.
That said, I am also a planner. If we shoot, I will often go to considerable effort in preparation. Be it wardrobe acquisition, scoping out locations, maybe even paying for use of a location, even setting aside time in my calendar – please understand this is an investment. For that reason, I ask that any model who agrees to work with me approach this in a professional manner. Do not accept the work if you can not keep the appointment, and please get plenty of sleep the day or two before the shoot. In return, you will experience my full devotion to our creative endeavor.
My photos are retouched very little. There is enough beauty in this world waiting to be captured even without having to manipulate pixels. I strive for honesty in my work, and I would rather be shooting than sitting in front of the computer.
I pay all models that I contact for a project. I do not believe in TFP/CD; it’s my production and you will be paid to participate. If you want to hire me to do your project, please contact me as my rates are reasonable. I have a well equipped studio in my home, occasionally rent an outside location, and do location shots anywhere in the Bay Area. I occasionally travel to Asia for photo shoots.
