The label is called Callecia J Brown it has been established since 2007 and has sold to shops around the country including Plank in Nottingham, Ethos in Derby, Collard Manson Sheffield and the Independent boutique in Manchester Balham Bou london. We also undertake one-off haute couture pieces for any occasion but mostly weddings.
All garments are designed and made in Nottingham by Myself and a team of little helpers. Fabrics are sourced from everywhere possible from charity shops markets or from little old ladies.
The principle aim of the label is to produce beautiful wearable clothes with an edge. Although it recognises trends it is not dictated by trends.
I come from a tailoring background having studied the art of traditional bespoke tailoring. Therefore cut is the most important element of the design process and as we use a lot of recycled/found fabrics, buttons trims which are in small quantities. The cut most make the most of these materials. The use of recycled fabrics also gives an element of one-off originality to each piece. The cut stays the same in a particular garment but often they will be lined trimmed with varying materials.
The current collection is inspired by the cut and detailing from the Edwardian period but styled for the 21 century and for sunny carefree days. It is also an exploration of tailoring.
