I MAKE HEADWEAR AND ACCESSORIES & I STYLE
I am not a professionally trained designer;
I grew up in a creative home with a professional dancing mother who taught me to sew and make my own costumes.
As a performer and lover of dressing up - I have always been creative and made accessories, customised clothes and had a fascination with car boot sales, and finding gems in others rubbish.
I care about our environment and have always been concerned with our ever growing wasteful society.
I'm a thrift store junkie, rummager, and treasure hunter with a passion for making the discarded and unwanted into the usable, beautiful and desired again.
A Glorified Recycle'er!
I tend to see beauty in unusual places, where others may see the grotesque and I transform it into something I find intriguing. I find nature its process and all its remnants a huge inspiration.
I mainly make headwear and accessories and have built up a collection over the last 8 years mainly for my own love of creating. It was only when friends started to see some of my designs around my home and commented how much they actually liked them that I considered showing them to anyone!
I then began making headwear in 2007 for my own shows and then other performers and models, mainly fascinators, headwear and a few hair pieces.
I love playing about with fashion and my love for thrift stores has always allowed me to play freely and cheaply with clothing - I began customising my clothes aged 10 when I met a group of teenage goths and punks who fascinated me with their make-up/clothing/music and lifestyle...I was hooked!
In my new collection I have been inspired by my recent travels abroad in 2012 to Marrakesh doing charity work and witnessing first hand how little people have and how precious both food and materials are but also how little regard there is for human life let alone the lives of our animal kingdom friends... in contrast to our "throw away and label obsessed society" and contradictory love for pets and animals vs our greed for their flesh for consumption and fashion.
Almost all of the materials I have used to create this collection I have found in thrift stores/charity shops (other peoples disguarded items) been donated, or have died of natural causes. This collection does include the bones and wings/tails of birds/animals. I am a vegetarian and member of PETA and in no way condone the slaughter of animals for fashion or food.
The animals whose parts i use all died of natural causes and i believe in honouring their lives by using otherwise discarded parts in a beautiful lasting creation.
There are no rules for me in fashion - beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I create what I feel, with what I find, or can get my hands on at the time; making each piece totally unique.
I also style at my shoots but am more than happy and eager to work with clothing designers.
The results of my work, I hope speak for themselves.
I will consider all collaborations/publications/editorials/lending of items etc if the project is high end or benefits my portfolio...
I am looking for models, MUA's, hair stylists, photographers, clothing designers, artists, editors, publishers etc... to work with on a TF basis over the next 2 months.
